superb gem proof ultra/deep cameo seated dime MONSTER....blast/flash/frost/mirrors

the scan barely does justice to the coin and this coin is totally blast white with ultra deep mirrors with frost that is deep plus! both sides!!
i have rarely seen a proof seated dime with the obverse as deeply frosted and with monster black and white contrast deep mirrors/deep frost as this coin

usually the reverses on deep/ultra cameo graded seated dime proof coins by the two major services are monster deeply mirrored with monster deep frost and the obverses also deeply monster mirrored but not as deeply frosted on the obverse...........like this coin

also this coin has no worms/linkmarks and the only thing that keeps this coin from a 67/68 grade is a reeding mark at 11pm on the obverse to the left of miss liberties head. there are no nicks or hairlines on this coin AT ALL!

sight seen in person you would never suspect this coin is the coin in the photo. this coin looks like a new proof american silver eagle 2002 in terms of deep frost, deep mirrors and especially so with flash and blast!

i have seen many many other graded deep/ultra cameo seated proof dimes and many to me are not deep/ultra on the obverse even though they are graded as such! this coin is a rare exception

it is not close it is not deep but deep plus both sides in terms of frost and mirrors

in other words there are four types of holdered designated deep/ultra cameo seated dimes

and remember both sides! have to be solid FOR ME to call it a deep/ultra cameo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 those that are not deep/ultra cameo in deep/ultra cameo holders
2 those that are just made it in deep/ultra cameo holders
3 those that are solid for the designated ultra/deep cameo in holders
4 those that are STELLAR deep/ultra cameo plus designated coins!

this coin to me is number 4 stellar deep/ultra cameo plus!!

only buy and pay huge permiums for number 4 coins and only buy and pay reasonable permiums for number 3 coins as both number 3 and 4 coins are rare
only buy number 1 and 2 coins at cameo prices and number 2 coins at cameo prices would be great! values and deals

this coin currently resides in an ngc proof66 ultra cameo holder

and you might know where this coin came from but if not i will give you a hint his first name begins with the same letter as mine and he is on the west coast......... care to guess who it is?........lol

this coin currently is in an eastern collection and i have seen this coin in person and the above is my opinion as such

sincerely michael

oh and as an after thought yes ........ this coin has been dipped but for me it came out utterly fantastic and has been in this holder for almost 2 years
not perfection but as close as you are going to get! with a coin from the 1800's and overall overall super! superb........

in other words mamma mia! that is one hellva spicy meatball!!!!!

    Michael ,
    Nice meatball!
    How was the picture taken?
Is this 1-4 scale a personal one?

  • Michael,

That is a beautiful early strike off of a very well prepared cameo die. You know how I love those classic ultra-heavy cameoed proofs. This one looks like it has it all.

hi there mike this does have it all!!!!!!!
trime i do not photograph these coins and i have no idea how it is done i know absolutely nothing about photography
and little else about most subjects but with coins i like and specialize in i am a legend in my own mind.........lol
but i guess if i was sooo smart in coins i would be making money in them and i am not a dealer nor a buyer or seller of coins to others never have most likely never will be........lol
it was interesting that you said all are 4x i am going to have to remember that if someone asks me
how much they are blown up! sincerely michael

well for me i have thuoght asbout this

for me this coin has no hairlines and no nicks wahtsoever the toning was crappy that is why the coin
    was dipped
but oh what a dip!!!!! soooooooo this coin didnot get this reeding mark after it left the mint this is my
    feeling
and i am for the most part 95% correct...............lol well i think so

the collector who stored this coin never cleaned it in any way the only reason why this coin is not in
    a 67/68 holder
is this reeding mark and yet if you have never saw this it would be virtually unoticeable!!!!!!

it is ever so slight but with proof dimes at the time not being popular they were not handled correctly
    by mint
    personnel
everyone was after the halves and dollars proofs in the 1880's now those were popular coins

i am also nit picky most would never ever notice this or care.........lol

for me waht happened was the pressman after strikeing this coin was careless and he struck another
    coin and
    just
threw it in a pile with this dime and others since the coin being a proof the edge being sharp really
    sharp
it hit this coin and made a slight mark on the coin! ever so slight but nonetheless a classic reeding
    mark and of
course this year there were leftover dimes and many were melted! as was the case for some years
    preceeding
this year so no one really cARED about the quality control at the mint for proof coins especially so
    for the dimes
    in proof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

then this coin was most probably sold the same day to someone for whatever reason and i think
    since it was
a super white ultra cameo it got sold immediately if not sooner so it was spared more abuse!
usually they were then put into like a dark brownish thicker tissue paper thicker then waht we call
    tissue today
now the cents were just haphazardly put into a wooden drawer at the mint as a dime even a cent was
    still lots of
money $$ back then well some cents were mint tissue wrapped...............lol
    imeAN the coin was
a looker and what better cheap sounvenior than a coin like this possibly to a collector? who knows?

the person who kept this coin never cleaned it but it got some really ugly toning that is why it was
    dipped
but oh what a dip and ultra cameo plus both sides!!!!!!!!! if not for this small ever so slight mark this
    coin would
be in a 67 holder!!!!!!!!!!! easy

also the redding mark shows a coin thrown against another coin and since these proof coins were
    not put into
a hopper or bag they were supposed to put hand put aside it does happen after a long day that some
    may just
get haphazerdly tossed together and one coin the sharp razer edge hit this coin ever so, lightly that it
    left
an ever so slight classic telltail treeding mark

    sincerely michael

    Oh oh!

It is 4am, do you know where your dimes are???????? Let alone anything else??

It disappeared off the CLCT web site. Clinch onto to it for dear life.

Let me know when it returns so I can look at it.

I can wait until after you give it a tongue lashing for being out until the wee hours of the morning! image
