How can I tell if it is struck trough cloth?

Not sure. Also any lincoln fans????? the penny had a D O L (upsidedown) on his head. any ideas?thegoods

That first Jefferson looks like it was struck through cloth. It's basically obliteration of the design just like that. It's also possible that the die was filled with grease. It's hard to tell the two apart.

I can't see the D O L on the Lincoln, but I'm not on the clearest monitor at the moment.
