Does anyone here know if they are going to go? I'm working to convince my parents... whether they will let me take the train alone, or if they will go, too... oooooh I wanna go to a big show!!!
If you go, how will you get there? Anyone taking NJ Transit on the Dover line?
Jeremy
PS- I wanna take my ASE for PCGS to see, maybe

<< <i>Jared- Summit... born and raised... only about 1-2 miles from my house is the station $8.75 round trip, I believe... to South Orange it is like $2.75 (there is a dealer I like there... my grandparents live right near there, so my grandfather is taking me this weekend when I stay with them, saving me the fare )

Lets all plan a meeting spot then.

Are you sure PCGS will be there? Yes this is a large show but it is almost exclusively non-US and ancient coins. (By US coin show standards it would be considered medium to large sized.) There is a very good chance PCGS will not be there. None of the services come to the Chicago International Show which is just a little smaller than the New York International.
I wouldn't mind going to the NYI but It is probably moving in the same direction as the Chicago show, more and more dealers doing ancients exclusively and most of the other non-US coins are all in the $500 and up catagory. When I started doing Chicago it was about 25% ancients and the rest was all non-US from minors to the high end stuff. By last year it was up to about 60 - 70% ancients and most all of the Non-US was high end crowns and gold with a little high value minor coinage. Normally I spend all three days at the show but this time I'd seen every thing of interest and left Saturday afternoon before the show closed. (Won't be there this year as it conflicts with EAC in Cincinnati.)
Jared- Summit, in the Revolutionary years up to 1899 was called Turkey Hill, as it is located at the peak of the 2nd Watchung Mountain Range, hence the new name Summit... the hilltopper is nothing but someone at the top of the hill Our current mascot is the all-mighty... the MOUNTAIN GOAT! We all like the goat
In S. Orange I go to Ye Olde Curiosite Shoppe... in Summit I go to Horizon Rare Coin Galleries.

It's also a great place to go if you want some semi-bullion XF/AU European gold: 100 Franc and 50 Franc pieces, 20 Mark pieces, Swedish gold, Norwegian gold, Dutch gold, etc. It's decently priced, but not cheap by any means.
It's a great place to meet foreign dealers - dealers come from the UK, Switzerland, Germany, South America, etc.
Last year was the first year the show was at the Waldorf - it used to be in the mezzanine of the WTC. I though last year's arrangement was less than optimal as the show was spread among three or so rooms and the aisles were way too narrow. However, last year's show was arranged hurredly, so perhaps this year's will be in a better venue.
I don't recall if PCGS was there last year, but they were never there in the previous six years. As you know, world collectors don't slab and British dealers certainly don't slab.
As you can imagine, with travel costs being what they are, the foreign dealers generally bring their big ticket items and the US dealers generally bring expensive material as well.
Last spring, I met one US dealer in world coins who said they preferred the Chicago Intl show to the NY Intl because they thought New York focused too much on big ticket items.
If you're in the area and interested in world or ancient coins, you should go because you'll see coins you won't see anywhere else (except perhaps the Chicago Intl.).
