Mike Schmidt collectors strike back!

Argh -- what have I started with these darn Schmidt collectors!!

I remember when I thought it was a good idea to promote the Mike Schmidt player registry as a place to offload some of the "Extras" from my submissions. Now it looks like people are trying to overtake me and burn me at the stake!!! Probably something like what thegemmintman feels whenever Davalillo is in town ;-)

I mean --- I guess everything is fair and well in PSA-land, as six-box wax cases from this set sell for an astounding $40- each!!

MS
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Yeah, but who else is going to send in that card? Sometimes we just have to pay for convenience. Besides, how many 10s of that card are there?

It's the only one -- just sort of an annoyance from my end. I actually think that this is one of the Schmidt cards that is so common -- that I haven't stored up on a huge number of raw examples of the card (I'm dreadfully behind in submissions -- I have thousands of Schmidt cards to review -- for example, I'm sitting on 800 factory-set fresh Schmidt cards from the 1986 Topps set -- which is a monster of a set to even find in PSA 9)...

Happy to add the card to my collection, definitely -- but I am much more satisfied with an acquisition like this:

10/11/00 -- purchase of 181 copies of 1990 Upper Deck #20 Mike Schmidt retires. Ebay auction #437316479. Seller -- Rushoeless, who obviously broke this set for grading stars and sold the minor stars in raw bulk. I submit eight of those cards to PSA -- one PSA 8, four PSA 9s and three PSA 10's. To this day, those are the only three PSA 10's graded. Much more satisfying, let me tell you!

Oh well -- wish I had more time and energy to be going through all my raw Schmidt cards!

Yo Marc - it wasn't me. image

I have been staying away from Schmidt PSA 9's and 10's. I have been waiting until the new guys get them all, and then I will start again.

I remember when it was only me and you and I thought I had a nice solid lock on #2!

    MS...

I know the pain "when them times are a changin'"..

I've been bumped out of 2 top Kellogg's spots within the last week or so, 1974 and 1976.

It looks kinda' funny on the registry to see the 2002 winner icon in second place!!

    Everybody guns for #1.

Oh 'well.... I'm glad there are more collectors in K cards....BUT...DO THEY HAVE TO TAKE MY THRONE????

It'll make me try even harder for next year!!

    Take care Marc...

    Larry.

Schmidty - your MS collections sounds absolutely astounding. Is there any way you could generally describe everything you have here on this board? I know I would love to read it!

  • Geesh, I got about 1,000 unopened packs of 90 Donruss. Didn't think that it was a good time to break them open.
