Well you can buy a nice rose from the 70 or 73 for less than $800 and there is still quite a bit of 76 unopened stuff out there so a grand sounds really steep
Collector of baseball PSA sets from the 1970's & hockey rookie cards; big New York Rangers fan (particularly now that they are sleeping with the enemy with Holik and Kaspiritus). Also starting to collect 53 Bowman Color as I think they are the most beautiful cards I have seen.
As a Rose collector and buyer/seller/trader friend of the seller, I know the first 1976 Rose PSA 9 did indeed go for over 1K. I would not be surprised if it did.
Marc, if you want to sell it to me for book, I will accept
It is a very nice card, I got it from a vending case I cracked a few years ago -- and, surprisingly, it was not in my first roundsof submissions!
I am hoping it goes for over a grand -- that would make my day! Thanks!!

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
To follow up on Neal's post, the only other one I've seen change hands went for $910 (about a year ago). The funny thing is that an SGC 96 went for under $400 earlier this year (though in all honesty I would be surprised if it would have crossed over to a straight PSA 9). The one currently for sale is the best looking '76 Rose I've ever seen ...

<edit>Marc, I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that I didn't see the auction while it had the BIN ...
Stunning example of the 76 Rose. Nicest one I have seen. Looks like the bottom left corner is just slightly touched. Not very noticeable. Maybe I am just tired. Had to look long at this card. It could of been a ten. Gorgeous!!!
Without sounding disingenuous, it truly is a beautiful PSA 9. It certainly is better than a few 1980s PSA 10 cards I have of some of my favorite Phillies.
From someone who frequently struggles with far from perfect card reverses on his high-grade 1955 Bowmans, I must reiterate that this card has an absolutely wonderful reverse. Something I normally wouldn't even notice -- but it seemed pretty clear the last time I had the card in my hands. Too bad that it won't be in my hands for much longer!

one of my all time favorite cards. i would love to own it and would have for the 650 bin if someone hadn't already bid on it. i think the bin should stay there until auction end. it just took a 10 dollar open to wipe it away where marc probably could have sold it 3x.just because the person that opens it doesn't want to spend that kind of money or really thinks he was going to get that card for (i think his highbid was 75)a song shouldn't have stopped me or someone else for buying it for 650. he loses(after all he had his chance) and marc wins (he got what he wanted ).
my guess 643.01(and no it probably wont be me too close to christmas and my wife is clued in on it, but not ruling her out)
I for one like the fact that BIN goes away -- it is a $.05 investment for me -- and when it hits, I am happy for it. However, if it does not, no worries at all from me. Twice in the last month I had cards sell for over my BIN -- including one 1955 Bowman HOFer in PSA 8 that sold for over double my BIN. I set the opening bid at $50-, so it was not totally unfair; I do not believe in setting BIN too high as it keeps bidders away.
Jackstraw -- the situation you described to me sounds almost like a reserve. I know that if the BIN stayed there for the whole auction, I would not use it. With the ability to set the opening bid at whatever I want, and a one-time chance to set a buy-it-now for anything I dream of, there is no worries whatsoever. The ideal solution in my eyes. Had I any worries about getting the card's "fair" value, I would have set a reserve. But I usually believe in the free market system -- though it sometimes has its kinks.

I can see that it did not get a PSA 10!
It looks near perfect!
What is the flaw that took down to a 9?

The images posted ealier of the cards were very attractive.
Did villagephotos.com have internal problems and the two images were lost?
if he gets reinstated to MLB and gets into

He met with Selig to discuss terms of just such a plan.
