1970 3-D Superstars and 1970? Topps Supers

I just found a few complete sets of 1970 3-D Superstars (Football), I believe there Kelloggs. I also found 2 sets of what I believe are 1970 Supers(Baseball). There large cards with the same colored back as 1970 Topps. Does anyone know the grading criteria for these. I only sent in a few 1970 Baseball Kelloggs and got a few 7's and 8's. These 70 Football's are much better. I know about cracking but what makes the card a 9 or 10?

  • PSA won't grade '70 Topps Supers. I have a stack of them that I have been trying to get them to grade for two years. Note that in the population report there are a few graded, which were apparently graded by mistake.

The cards are 1/16" thick, so they don't fit in the slabs very well.

  • Several grading criteria for 1970 Kelloggs football. Though I've heard Gem Mint Man state it more clearly than I ever could on these pages before (he was referring to baseball but it's the same thing in grading regard).
Keep an eye on the centering. the 70 Football set has a few cards with traditionally thin top borders. Those are 8's at best. They need to be centered. Make sure the borders are pearly white, some will yellow over time.
There are also the hanging chads which is a separate grading monster all itself. It seems like the smaller the better but it's not very consistent.

And of course no cracks. If you see a crack, no matter how small, don't send it in. a magnifyer is a must for grading this set. Besides the cracks it will also allow you to see if there are any scratches on the surface.
As for the set itself, the 70 and the 71 Kelloggs set are my two favorite football sets of all time. The 70 set can be put together on a budget. The 71 set is the most difficult monster you will ever encounter.
The backs don't seem to matter near as much as the fronts.
Strong buyer of 1970 Kelloggs Football & 1971 Kelloggs Baseball and Football. Please help me find cards!
I have a few hundred extra PSA graded 1971 Kellogg's cards. E-mail for price list. Looking for 1970 Topps Supers in PSA 9 too.

Hmm -- I thought that a friend of mine had recently had a large number of 1970 Topps Supers cards graded. Perhaps I am wrong -- but I raised to him the same concerns you had, BruceMo, and he said he contacted PSA who indicated that they are grading those cards. I will contact him again -- it seems as if the population may have increased lately -- I will see if I can't check with him again to confirm
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • They have graded 42 in total. I don't know that anyone has *recently* done it. If someone has *recently* done it, I'm very angry, because like I said, I've been trying to grade mine for two years.

I've sent them in twice, both times after being told they grade them, and they've sent them back both times, with a note explaining that they don't grade them.

Last time this came up, they had graded some, but I don't think they were graded between then and now.

Imagine how you'd feel if you bought a bunch of very nice examples when they first started doing "giants", expecting to have the first few graded, and they won't take yours, but they take someone else's, and then they *still* won't take yours.

    That's how I feel.

  • I know that feeling Bruce. They also told me that they wouldn't grade them.
