Best or Worst Deals on Ebay?

I have had some luck buying coins on Ebay. Last year I bought a 1939 Jefferson nickel for $3.00 that was suppose to be MS64. Well it turned out to be an AU58 by ANACS but it also was a double die reverse. So I came out ahead! I sold the coin for $81. What experiences have you all had?

Picked up a set of 1938-64 Jeffs on eBay from a guy who bought them at a garage sale for $25. Picture was fuzzy and distant, but coins looked flashy in their Capitol Plastic. (Really, I wanted the holder, the coins were just a bonus.) At any rate, won the lot for $39 and you guessed it ... a BU set of Jeffs! Included a triple die reverse 1939 listed in Cherrypickers' (sorry, don't have my copy beside computer to look up FS number and I'm too lazy to go upstairs ...) and a 1954 S/D (in the 54-S hole) which now is in a PCGS MS-64 holder. Not a bad buy...
  • When I first got into coin collecting a couple years ago, I bought about a dozen raw Buffalo nickels from various sellers on eBay. All were claimed by their respective sellers to be MS-65 (or higher.) I took them to a coin show where ANACS opinion graded them all between AU-53 and AU-58. (Not worth slabbing) image

As a side note, I wrote down all the ANACS opinion grades and took them to a different coin show about six months later in another city where ANACS graded each of them within a point of their previous assessments! It was then that I realized there was a lot for me to learn about grading coins!
