    Coppercoins,

Is that a Vam 11? Very nice OMM; maybe I can luck into a Vam 9, but the 11 is okay too. image

Nice catch - I've seen several of this seller's offerings and have been tempted several times, but haven't pulled the trigger. I'll be interested to see what your take on the coin's condition is versus the pic.

Hi Gilbert, it looks like a nice coin but it's hard to really tell from the scan. The picture that coppercoins posted looks more like misplaced O's than an O over CC in my amature opinion but I am sure the experts have studied this variety very thoroughly. mike

Glad you didn't ask for comments on the buyer because he has only 1 feedback! (snicker snicker) image

Looks good in the big pictures. Dosen't look the same as the picture of it in the slab though.
  • So far, I have nothing but respect for this seller. Looks to be a good coin IMHO.

  • He has nice coins but he is full of hype. Nearly everything he claims is "Rare" when clearly it is not always the case. He used t odeal in lots of suken treasure stuff and that's when i started skipping his auctions.

Almost forgot, he freely quoted pcgs.com prices when it serves him best and CDN prices when that works better. For the uninitiated that kind of tactic can be confusing and misleading. I have seen many a newbie spend thousands on his auctions and when i checked their past purchases this was their first, clearly they were burned.

What he does is not illegal but as a matter of principal I do not bid on his auctions.

I too am very curious what this coin looks like in person. The comments about his pricing according to which guide has always struck me as self-serving. Then he usually tells us what a favor he is doing by offering it a lower price. All of his scans look the same too. Anyway I really like this coin, please let us know what you think after you get it. He does sell some nice stuff, I've been watching his auctions off and on for 2 years, have bid on them, but never won one.

Just to add a little more info, if you recall my previous post about the limitation on accepting credit cards, well this is the auction, if you didn't figure that out.

Since Barry has posted in the forum, not very often I grant you, I emailed him (as I had the audacity to think I may have developed a reputation as being trustworthy image, and suggested that it wouldn't be much of a risk to accept a credit card payment.

He never responded himself, although I got an email with payment instructions, and when I called the person I spoke with didn't offer to provide a direct communication with him. None of this will influence any feedback I provide; it will be based on the merits of the coin and transaction ACCORDING TO HIS TERMS.

Anyway, it kinda' touches on a previous thread regarding what to expect from transactions among forum members. Also, I forget to add, I know Barry spends a lot of time with ANA matters, and now that I mention it, it SEEMS he takes these opportunities (eBay transactions) to recommend and provide applications for ANA membership, and touches upon some of its benefits. Not too crazy about that; my purchase shouldn't be construed as an open invitation for solicitation, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, if he has so much faith in the ANA, I too am an ANA member, so in my mind, he should have accepted my CC payment and left any problem resolution to the ANA arbitration (or does that only apply to dealer members?). He is the one pushing membership and its benefits. It wouldn't be improper for me to turn that around on him, would it? image I wouldn't, this time. image

So anyway, I don't expect the coin for another week or more likely two, and I'll be sure to follow-up and let you know how it turned out.

DesertLizard, I've come to find that a great many dealers/sellers who have expressed a "profound respect and interest" for the well-being of the hobby, are not immune to the "hype", for what it's worth.
