opinions on a 21 peace dollar

What do you think the best and worst grade of this coin could be? How much should I pay? Thanks Mike image

IMHO it is a low grade MS coin.I don't specialize in the Peace Dollars, but hope to someday.

Looks funny, maybe its the scan - but I would say its MS60-62 from the pics. But then again I have a hard time with 21s and have seen both PCGS and NGC grading all over the place on these coins.

My scan has striations all though it though.

      • I would guess around xf40/45. Hard for me to decern if it has any luster like an AU or higher grade should. If !`m right about the grade ( I could easily be wrong about the grade ) retail would be around $60-$70.

Worst grade - AU55. I can't tell from the pics if there is wear. I count the coin $100 up depending on wear. I don't see any evidence of wear Mike, but it's hard to tell from a scan. If it goes MS, it's probably an MS63. Double the value.image

Hard to tell by the pics. The pics make it look a bit cleaned. I'm going with AU-55.
      • I think they got it pegged Mike - I wouldn't risk anything beyond MS62 money - if you really really want this. Otherwise AU money would probably be a good deal.

I have one that looks the same. It is dull, lifeless, weakly struck and full of hairlines. Do you have the coin? Check for hairlines. It looks a bit better than mine but I'm thinking AU at best.

fcloud- no I don't own the coin but if it is cheap enough I will try to own it. I really can't say for sure if it has any signs of cleaning from the scan but I do see a vertical scratch right in the middle of the eagle. Thanks everybody! mike

      • << <i>TWODOGS,

That looks like a 65. And while the strike is not full, it is actually quite nice. Now the real importan question, why is it not in a PCGS holder? >>

        baseball,
It's going in this week. It's the VAM-2, "Doubled PEACE." Of course PCGS won't put that on the holder. The reverse die had deep polishing marks throughout, so there are some extra "rays." Apparently "PEACE" got doubled in the rehubbing.

unfortunately your scans are much smaller but it looks maybe au to me. the eye appeal is tough, but 70 bucks or soo.....
      • zenny,
Thanks. She is a Babe. I probably shouldn't have posted the pic in this thread, but I just love the way the shadow accents her profile. I'll post results when I get them. After tomorrow, all I'm going to be able to look at IS the pic for 3 weeks or more.

      • Darktone,
Thanks for the invite. I won't try and second guess what PCGS will grade this. I've NEVER been right before.
