My elderly mom, who is very sharp at age 77, wants a new 35mm camera for Christmas. Basically what she wants is a Auto focus with a flash and a little zoom capability. With all the coin photog nuts on this forum, I thought I could get some good recommendations here. I want to spend 100-200 bucks for a easy to use nice quality camera. Thanks guys and gals. mdwoods

  • I use a very simple Sony MVC-FD83 digital camera, zoom, auto focus, uses floppy disks, its kind of old though ( 2-3 years )

A Polaroid PDC640 is a nice camera for general as well as close-up use.

It's got 3 settings for the lens distance and can focus as close as 6 inches.

I use a Sony MVC for it's 10x zoom lens for coins, but the Polaroid is a nice general use camera for under $100.

    Mark,

I'm getting ready to buy this one for my wifes birthday next week. I like the viewfinder zoom feature. I'll let you know how it turns out. It is fully automatic, so picture quality will be good.image

  • Mark,

Olympus generally provides very easy cameras (point-and-click where only one eye and one finger is required, keeping it simple). They go for about $125.

I've had great success with the Samsung Evoca series. Has all those features and is around $100. (real film)

Hopefully you are in an area where there is a camera shop. Most camera shops are very helpful. For the kind of money you are talking about there are some very nice point and shoot cameras in which are easy to use, and give you a high quality images. If you have a shop in your area give them a try. Some of the brands I like are Nikon (my favorite), Pentax, Cannon, and Olympus. Good Luck!
