  • Great collection! It sounds like you have some cool early proof Jeffs including both reverse ofs.
  • Leo....Nice set. I like descriptions of coins listed with their grades. I see you have alot of ANACS Jeffersons....Don't let that out; ANACS Jeffersons are graded tough.

    Enjoy your coins.......

    Leo - Thanks for sharing all this. Looks like a great set. What does m5/f7 mean? Does 5.00 in ANACS mean first five full steps, or can it mean total step count?
    Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

    Nice set Leo.

    Do you know if ANACS is planning a Registry set of their own? I suppose that's the only way you'd be able to register your set.

    Hi Ron
    The m5/f7 was a way of split grading the obverse and reverse strike of a coin. M for medium, F for full and W for weak strike. The only place this appears in the set is for the 54-S, the obverse has a medium strike while the reverse has a full strike. I learned this grading notation through the Richard and Susan Sisti's, Ramapaugh Trading Co. full step Jefferson nickel auctions. And 5.00 steps is for 5 full steps. The 1939-D type one in the set, the steps are counted in quarters. Thanks for your interest.

    On a side note, I have bought a nickel or two from you but off hand I can't remember what they were.
    My computer has crashed 2-3 times and has lost so too much information to keep track of everything.

    Hi DAM
    I haven't heard anything about ANACS starting a registry. The PCGS and NGC Registries represent many great collections. Could the numismatic world of coin collecting use another registry? There was a thread about a regustry that should accept all kinds of slabs. If I crossed over 4-5 dates and buy a couple of others, I could list my 1938 to 1964 proof coins but then again, there are many great collecters and coins represented in those registry sets. I'm always upgrading and adding to the collection. Recently as today, I picked up 9 Anacs FS Jefferson nickels through ebay from a great veteran FS Jefferson collecter. Four of the nickels are prooflike which includes the earliest and only certified prooflike 1940-D Anacs 65 6 step. I've known about this coin for 4-5 years and I finally landed it. A few of the others sport beautiful toning. Thanks for your interest.

    Again I want to thank everyone for their nice comments. I also want to know why I was the only bidder on the following coin;

    image

    For whatever reasons that refrained you from bidding, I want to thank everyone for letting me have it, if there were intentions. The picture is small but I'll post a larger pic soon. Here's something for those of you who are attending the showdown in Florida. This seller, an original PAK member, had one of the greatest FS collections in the 1980's and early ninties until he sold his collection to a dealer in Texas. Then another great FS collecter bought it for $7-8000. From this same collection, is where Mr. Mint, Al Rosen received his 54-S, 55 and 56-D. Of course, shortly thereafter, this prompt Mr Mint to sell. But this collection took part in a showdown that was held in Chicago where several FS collecters compared sets but that's another story that can only be told best by those who were there. But as the story was told to me, this collection was the best one there. I've seen this collection several times with the present owner and it contains some of the greatest coins I've ever seen which includes a 61-D and the 39-D T1. The original owner of this collection was thrilled when I gave him the news on the whereabouts of his collection. How fitting if a few of those collectors made the journey to share their stories. Nagengast was one of those participants. David, the Nevadaman, has Berns collection now. Bill Fivas was another FS collecter. A class act should include invitations to these veteran FS collecters to attend the PCGS showdown.

  • I saw where you had to pay just over $100 (with P&H) for that '40(d) nickel.
    One day earlier, a PCGS MS 66FS '40(d) nickel went unsold at about $60.
    I'm sure the nickel you have is a real nice coin.
