Many sellers make their own certificates for their autographs. One dealer makes his own certificates to go with his UDA items.
  • anyone know if it even looks close to authentic

  • It is pretty sad if you are laughing about someone making their own COA. You really need to get out more. What is wrong with making his own. When people buy autographs, they are more likely to purchase ones that are backed by the seller. Would you buy that autograph if he didn't back it 100% with a COA? Also, what is the difference between his COA or a COA from Upper Deck or another company? The only thing is we trust the companies more than the regular autograph hound or collector. All the Game Used cards put out into circulation, how do we know that the player even touched the Jersey that they are putting into the cards? They could get one jersey back and make cards for a lifetime using jerseys the player never even touched. Who would really know besides the company? If you have a problem with sellers making their own COA, then don't buy from them. Just try putting a signed item that you got in person on ebay with out any documentation as proof of its authenticity. You'll see there is a bigger difference in selling price usually.
  • ahhh cshreve the guy who obtained like 50 tmac autos on a card at a hornets magic game....
This guy is selling forgeries, I KNOW THIS
how many times can tmac sign a card at a hornets game?? he always has tmac auto cards... *His*

Wow. Now we condone dealers making their own COA. There is no mention of this guy obtaining this auto in person. If he had, then a COA from him would work here (with some documentation of course of the date, location, etc..)

This guy makes a valiant effort to ensure it is authentic. But, I get a COA from him, get the auto verified that it is fake, and this guy disappears. And then, it's just a piece of paper.

For EVERY autograph I obtain in person (at shows mostly), I make sure to take a picture of the athlete signing my item. That's all I'll ever need.

The ONLY good thing is that this guy backs it with a money back guarantee. And his COA, in essence, becomes an oversized receipt.

You can't certify the authenticity of an autograph if you did not witness it's creation. Period.

    This is a complete joke.

PS. I have a Jeter autograph that doesn't look like this one. This one on the card seems "longer" than the one I have.
  • I don't see any problem in if you saw it signed in person with making your own COA. How do you think Steiner and UDA started. I've not done this, but I know some people who have.
I'm looking for anything Yanks, any baseball autos, and much much more on my site. Thanks.

  • Yes, but this guy makes no mention of witnessing the signing. So, offering a COA without witnessing it is absurd.

  • I have bought autographs from Professional Sports Teams Charity auctions. They don't send a COA on all their items, but send a receipt of purchase. So I personally would probably make my own even if I didn't see them sign it and include it with the receipt from the team.
  • And that would be much more than this dealer's personal COA.

I sold autographed baseballs earlier this year for a friend who needed the cash. For those autos without COA's, we included in the ebay listing a scan of the advertisement from which the show was advertised.

Even THAT is more credible (for a third party seller >> me) than someone making a COA for something they didn't witness getting signed.

My first questions to this joker would be where, when and how was this signed. If he had no answers for me, and no documentation, then he would not get my business.

  • well, not to say anything about people making their own COAs, but that jeter signature is horrendous...
  • I agree... there is nothing wrong with someone making a COA for an autograph that they witnessed being signed. i have been selling a bunch of auto's on ebay recently out of my personal collection, all of which i obtained personally and I include a COA w/ a full money back gaurentee. As long as the seller witnessed the signing i see no reason they cant create their own COA... basically it just comes down to how much you trust the seller you are dealing with. I have built up a reputation with a lot of people i have dealt with on ebay and on CU so I have many people who trust me w/o even needing the security of a "piece of paper". I also have the same relationship with my local dealer and a few others online.

and yea.. i also agree that the Jeter looks nothing like any of the auto's i have of him... it is longer as stated earlier and the end of his signature doesnt run off as much as it does on the auto ... oh well... hopefully the bidder asked some questions and has a good idea where the auto came from
