Ever buy a coin and you have absolutely no idea why?

I just noticed this coin:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=804018976 while checking eBay and found myself drawn to buy it, and I don't know why.
The insert seemed interesting to me. I didn't know Larry Briggs (part owner of SEGS, right?) had a private collection like this and certainly didn't expect it to involve coins of such low grade.
Also, does anyone understand the variety this one is?
The price seemed right, and maybe I caught myself buying the holder, this time, and not so much the coin.

I make up for my poor choice in COIN with the SERVICE.
It's the Yin and the Yang of collecting.

Whenever I "click" a posted link, it opens in a second window, that is, everyone's but yours. Are you doing something different than the "http" link above? I guess, whenever I check out your links, I'll have to remember to use the browser back button. Have any idea why this may be?
I can confess to the purchase of coins on the internet that don't fit with any of my pre-determined plans.
Probably would not have been acquired at any other venue.
Computer purchases are just to easy.
Unfortunately, I do not specialize in AG-3 coins, thus my "why did I buy this list" often comes at a higher price tag.

I have done the same (bought on impulse) especially if I do not have the type, as long as the price is right.
Also, I think you probably have the most eBay userids that I have seen. Do you have two that you buy with and one or two that you sell with ?
I love Ike dollars and all other dollar series !!!
I also love Major Circulation Strike Type Sets, clad Washingtons ('65 to '98) and key date coins !!!!!
If ignorance is bliss, shouldn't we have more happy people ??
His collection of more than 400 different Seated Quarters was sold at auction 3 years ago. I don't know Larry's reason for selling his Seated Quarters, but I know that prior to it he was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr disease. This is an uncurable condition that causes a lot of fatigue.
This variety in this die state is very rare, as Conder101 has guessed.
I had looked at this myself on Ebay.
This was in fact a very good purchase on your part, Pat. Mark the slab so you know the variety is rare so you don't forget this when you sell.
The rarest 1854-O quarter is Briggs 3-B. The 3-B has a "broken barb" (because of a rusted die) on the top of the right arrow tip. In early die state it is R-8.
I have the only one known to exist in the early die state. I wrote an article on this early die state coin and it was published in Issue #78 of the Gobrecht Journal.
The most popular 1854-O is the Huge O variety.

Cool.
Suddenly I don't feel so foolish.
