really crappy photo but this is a rainbow iridescent pilgrim in a pcgs 65 holder which is a joke as this coin is an easy 66plus/67 coin
at the very least a lock 66....... for me......lol about 5 years ago one of the top commem buyers in the biz paid almost 1700.00 for this coin that came out of a collection of incredible toned early commems and invested two years and hundreds of dollars in grading fees for a 66/67 and it stayed 65!
the lustre is monster booming through the toning and what makes this coin rare is the rainbow iridescence with the booming lustre an added plus that really separates this coin from most others
also you might have to take my word on this......lol as the photo really does not do ANY justice to the coin
the reverse is slightly darker towards the middle but still has the iridescent rim toning
and for those early commem variety collectors this 1920 has no clash marks on either side and no clash marks in the top sails!!!!!
this is a coin worth more out of the holder.....lol and not too shabby in the holder regardless of the 65 grade
i have seen and examined this coin in person from a private collection
on the east coast

I don't own it. I wish I did, but there were too many other things to bid on at the time.
Didn't you have a nicely toned Pilgrim as an icon? Was that YOUR coin? I loved that coin.
Cheers,
Bob
I agree with you on this one. From the scan ( it is a little dark), it is an exceptional coin and I would have thought it deserved a 66. Certainly would not embarrass any collection (lol)
So if it is so nice a coin ( you are a very experienced and critical observer) and was submitted and resubmitted, did it not get rewarded with a higher grade? My experience with coins is that they are sometimes over or undergraded but undergraded coins usually get upwardly assessed on subsequent go arounds.
P.S. I love the high relief on the Pilgrim half.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.

Yep, it was a picture of my coin. I purchased it from Anaconda. It's still my favorite coin in my collection. I don't have a link to it right now or I'd post the picture again. Maybe later tonight.
i wiould have liked to see that coin in person
thanks clark of kent the brightening does show the obverse in a more truer light! but not the reverse though but the obverse yes yes!! wow!!!!!!!!! you are an expert at lighting!! thanks
trime! how are you?? well for me trime i really do not know why it kept getting a 65 when cracked out and sent in raw
i only know that to me it is a lock 66+/67 and since i do not specialize in the grading service game trying to make a living at it i really do not know!
just that with the human factor and being a really subjective art grading that is i guess just the way it is
nowi do not know all the specific details well i do but i am not going to repeat it on here......lol
but one dealer#1 a few years ago kept sending in an already graded coin to a major slabbing service an ms67 early commem looking for a ms68 which it was!!!!! a lock 68!! yes yes yes yes well after many many times of seeing this coin at the slabbing service and keep grading it a 67 the person in real control of that service called the dealer#1 and told him not to waste his money looking for a 68 as it will never EVER HAPPEN guaranteed!!
sooooo the dealer#1 sold this coin ms67 slabbed to another dealer#2 this dealer#2 immediately sent the coin into the same slabbing setrvice looking for a 68 WHICH THE COIN WAS! AND HE GOT IT!! hense the other dealer#1 called the service and they had to pay him off.......lol
nothing wrong with that and really nothinhg wrong with the slabbing service
BUT GRADING IS AN ART NOT A SCIENCE AND CONBINED WITH THE HUMAN FACTOR IS ALWAYS IN A STARE OF FLUX
just make sure you buy the coin not the holder and you understand waht you are looking at as when the music stops many will be left holdding the bag so to speak
currently right now there is a great speculation in plastic and grades and certain coins that will remain nameless here as i do not want to be accused of bashing but
you all know what happens to spectulators
but the tried and true area of numismatics COLLECTORS of classic coins will always stand the test of time
weather in holdrers or raw make sure you always buy the coin!!!!!! and you buy the coin with the entent to enjoy it as a hobby and you know what you are looking at and can deside yourself of value based only on the coin! also you buy coins with money you can afford to lose and you buy for a collecting hobby coins are NOT AN INVESTMENT and you hold these coins for the long term building a collection and having fun
the only true thing is the fun and hobby and the camroderie and the meeting of great friends is the thing about coins
if you have other motives then you will not be for the most part happy
now yes there are some who make good money in coins be it a dealer or a collector or somewhere inbetween well that is okie such is life but the exception rather than the rule
now yes there are promoters on here and they like to promote and sell stuff and for me there is nothing wrong with that legally
i do have a big problem with it
as they are not honest with the people they are selling to but legally they are okie............lol
morally and ethically they are wrong!!!!!!! but again legally they are okie.........lol
just make sure when you buy something you try to make your own decsisons and think for yourself and get value for what you are buying
and remember you are buying coins not plastic and if you think like that you will do fine
yes plastic is okie and i am sure it does maximise the value of many coins from 1700's to the present just make sure that the plastic doesnot have a super great value over the coin raw i mean if you send in a coin that costs you 3 dollars or less even 25 dollars or less and then it becomes worth a few hundred to thousands of dollars certified then let the buyer beware! that i do have a problem with! and then these promoters hype the coins and then do not make a market inthem there are many on here that can attest to that let actions speak louder than words!!!

well one day i will gewt this coin reimaged by the current genius perosn i currently use and ythen it will knock you out!
sincerely michael
pilgrims are reallyrare like this especially so with the lustre and mark free surfaces it just simply amazes me that this coin is not in a 66 67 holder
