1921 Micro S Morgan on Ebay

I could not find a reference for the1921 Micro S that this Ebay Item lists.


If this variety does exist, where can I find a reference to it, if not, is this a scam?

There is a small S for 1903 " "Small S" mintmark. The only example of this mintmark on a Morgan dollar, it was punched into the die accidentally. No BUs known".

Never heard of one on a 1921.

The mintmark used on 21-S Morgans was unusually small compared to the rest of the series - but then again the entire coin had to be reworked because the master dies were destroyed.

What exactly is hoard toning? Never heard of that type, but I am relatively new to the sport.

What he's saying is misleading. That's a normal "S" mint mark for 1921. He's making it sound like it's a variety of some sort, different from other 1921S's. Of course by 1921 the mint mark punches used were smaller than for the earlier issues of Morgan dollars. The red book goes into this in some detail. There was an attempt to standardize mint mark sizes as far back as 1892, but there are exceptions, as noted above. By 1909 the smaller size was pretty much the standard. Wonder if he has a 1921 Micro D???

Any 1921 Morgans with mintmarks have been small ones, noting special on this one, maybe a bit overpriced

The only MM for the 1921-S is termed the "tall micro S" and is the standard MM. For 1921-D the MM is also very small.
