Whats in a name?

With all the talk of what a coin is worth in and out of a slab, I thought of a new twist! What if Dansco sold their albums already filled(dont know if they ever did). PCGS starts making albums that are identical(or contracts with Dansco) and also filled with coins. Would the PCGS albums put a premium on the coins? Some say they dont collect slabs(or you dont slab their coins), partly because they like the way they look in albums, would these people start collecting albums like some collect slabs? Would they be accused of buying the album and not the coins?

  • No slabs! The part that reputations and psychology play!

    Interesting viewpoint...of course Dansco would have to come up with some way of making the coins impossible to remove without tearing up the album...and yes...I think they would gain some sort of market and premium (eventually). Why not? Slabs are really not that much different.

  • It will never happen...ACG would want their chance too....the sad reality is that the album would be worth more than the coins
  • Where would PCGS get the coins? Can't have an unbiased service competing with the dealers for sales.

    How about this, new product for PCGS, you send in your completed set and they send it back in a SEALED album. (I'm thinking the coins are sonicly sealed into something like the five coin Whitman snaplocks. This would then be slid INTO the album page like the current slides do so that each coin shows in its own hole, and a rivet either plastic or metal locks the whole slide into the page.) Under each hole is the certified grade of that coin. It still slabs the coins for protection, and gives the appearance of an album. The slades can't be removed from the album so you don't have to worry about getting them mixed up. Of course if you upgrade a coin you have to send the whole album back in. Definitely a premium service.

    Conder 101;

    This would certainly make your job a lot harder and your collection a lot more expensive.
    How could you keep up?

  • Frankly I couldn't and I hope they never use my suggestion. I should apply for patent protection on the idea just so I can suppress it. image So everyone remember, just in case I have to protect my rights to the idea, you all saw it here, and I described the concept of album slabs. Not just the design but the concept. (Just in case they try to get around me by redesigning it, I still have the concept covered.) image
  • Ive seen cabinets and drawers for slabs, but does anyone sell albums?

    Eagle sells albums for slabs, but not like the ConderSeal (TM) Album, described above.image
