Is this an improperly rinsed planchet?

The hazing on the coin seems to follow the roller marks from planchet preparation. Was the planchet improperly rinsed? If not, what would explain it?

edit-BTW it's the 40% silver

Looks like deep scratches from a roller. I doubt it's bad rinsing from the examples I've seen. An interesting example. How lustrous is it?

I don't know if the process is the same now as then for proofs, but was watching program on TV (discovery? history? I don't remember) and they showed silver planchets being washed in a tumbler with soapy water and BB's (little ball bearings.) Which I imagine wipes out any roller marks fairly well. but like said, maybe they did things differently in 76. i dunno fur sure.
  • nwcs- It's actually DCAM although you can't tell from the scan. I lightened up the scan to better show the haze. The haze is not quite as dramatic on the real coin. In the right light/angle the haze disappears completely. Thick frost on the devices.

Give me your good change please. I'll take it from here, nurse.

How does the surface look on an angle is the haze on the surface or deep down (planchet)?
