It's sad that the high cost has kept most people away from owning a sample of this Remarkable Coin so i posted a scan of one of my own for you to enjoy and comment on.
I hear that the mintage figures for this year may have been very low, does any one know if this is true?
Enjoy

<< <i>Wow this is the first time i have even seen one of these coins. >>
And did you know that for the proofs, the reverses are different for each year? A Platinum type collector has a lot to buy...

<< <i>The Statue of Liberty platinums are pretty neat coins. I've got one each of the $10 proofs in PCGS PR69DCAM. Not a real expensive collection costing only somewhere between $500-600 to put together. The reverses change from year to year featuring different parts of the US. One coin has a lighthouse, another a cactus etc. All reverses have an eagle too. Some of the MS coins are getting a little bit harder to find and I've noticed the eBay prices are increasing. Pretty low mintages for moderns, but most certainly all will be saved. >>
I wonder if The High price of Platinum and hard economic conditions are creating a modern rarrity with this series this year. Is that possible ?

Six. 1997 was the first year, and featured the "standard" reverse. Starting with 1998, the Mint did a five-year "Vistas of Liberty" program, changing the reverse every year. This program ends this year (2002), so the 2003 Platinum proofs should revert to the 1997 reverse. Or maybe they'll start a new program...
Also remember that the Platinum coins come in four sizes/denominations. If a collector desired one of each design and denomination, they would need to buy 24 coins, or fully 11.1 ounces of Platinum (over $6,400 at melt).
