Grading process

GaCoinGuyGaCoinGuy Posts: 2,763 ✭✭✭✭
This is probably a repeated question too, but I read in the forums about some members submitting loads of coins and seemingly getting most, if not all, of them lower tham expected. I submit a few at a time, and seem to get better than expected.

My question is......during the grading process, does the grader know who the coin belongs too, or do they simply see the invoice number etc.....?

The graders do not know whose coins they are grading.

All coins first go into the receiving room where they are marked with a generic sticker that has the PCGS coin number, individual certification number, and submission invoice number. All the stickers look the same. By the time the coins reach the grading room, all the boxes and coin flips look the same.

The one exception to this is very high profile coins. In the case of extreme rarities, it's pretty hard to not know the owner. For example, if Trade Dollar Nut sent his 1884 and 1885 Proofs in for crossover, some of us would figure out that he was probably still the owner.
