My computer is acting up...could use a quick hand

My computer has a D cd drive and an M drive. The M drive is my DVD player and CD burner. For some reason, suddenly my computer isn't recognizing that the M drive is there. When I go to burn a CD, it says "They're are currently no supported CD recorders available." I have no freacking idea why not. I hate computers. Any ideas?

  • LOL, that's the next step. Thought I'd ask around, then go with the "bash it wildly" plan, also known as Plan B. B is for "Bash."

  • Hey,

Sounds like you may have somehow either wiped away the configuration files for your DVD/Cd burner or unselected the hardware device. My best suggestion is to find the configuration disk that goes with your DVD player/cd burner (it should have come with your computer when you bought it) and run the install file that is on the cd and then follow the steps. It should reinstall your device......

  • Adaptec Easy CD Creator.

It has worked previously for burning CD's, but suddenly will not, so I'm really baffled.

Quiksilver77, I'm not going to ask if you learned that lesson the hard way image

  • Thanks for the advice Ken. I got the computer from a pal's dead, so I don't have immediate access to the disc. Is there anything else I can do to get the computer to once again recognize my M drive?

It isn't just the CD burning program; when I try to bring up the CD player it also lists just a D drive.

  • Yep,

Go to Settings....then Control Panel....then Add Hardware. If you have Windows 2000 or NT it should find your DVD device and then look for the drivers to install it. Give that a try and report back:>}.

  • Hey,

Do you have a laptop? If so, make sure the drive is all the way in the slot...pop it out and insert it again. Sometimes that works.....

    Ken
  • Nope, it's a standard desktop. image I'm all out of ideas, I've restarted it, I tried the search for drives.

    I hate computers. A lot.
