Here's a story that happened here recently:
A 61-year-old Akron man is accused of losing $25,000 of other people's money through online gambling. What Akron police say Bernard Felber did was to sell stuff on eBay. The high bidder would send him a personal check. They’d get the merchandise, but a bit more than they bargained for. Felber used their checking account numbers to set up a $500 line of credit with an on-line gambling service from the Virgin Islands. When that cash was gone, police say Felber would go on to the next eBay customer and create another credit line. Victims called the cops; banks called the pay service which withdrew the money; the paper trail led right back to Felber. He's out on bond facing charges of identity fraud.

Joe.
In any event, it's still a pain because the money is gone, and you have to fight to get it back.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
