Confusing Paypal notifications. What can be done?

Sometimes it is a bit confusing receiving Paypal notifications of payment AFTER an auction lot has already been paid for. I'm kind of one of those Collectors that pretty much as soon as the eBay auction is over, I'm right there making that Paypal payment.
It almost never fails though, a couple of days later there is a computer generated letter from Paypal (the kind you can't respond to!) letting me know I won the lot and it's followed by payment instructions.

I could imagine, if someone did a lot of bidding and winning, one of these form letters might make the buyer question if payment had already been placed through Paypal to the Seller.

I just recieved a letter today from a auction buyer with the note, "I paid for this coin a few days ago..." pasted to the Paypal notification. I wrote him back and tried to explain I was aware and in fact his coin had shipped and he should be getting it today or tomorrow.

Is there a way of disengaging that feature with Paypal via our profile or account? I'd rather those notifications letters not go out unless Paypal can add a feature to their software that allows them to track those who DON'T need it- those who have already paid quickly for the auction.

  • You can turn it all off, but I don't know of a way to turn off the e-mail feature only.

  • IT IS IN THE SELLING AREA OF PAYPAL.

    sorry about the caps
  • Pat,
Go to the PROFILE tab once you access your account page. You can change anything you want there. Cancel the notifications or whatever. You can't do anything about other people's notifications to you, of course.

  • Well, if a buyer were to get confused and/or concerned about whether his/her payment was completed on Ebay, upon receiving such a PayPal notice, hopefully the buyer is smart enough to go to the PayPal site and check under MY ACCOUNT. It will confirm all the past transactions. Upon confirming the PayPal payment was completed, he could contact the seller to ask for a status.
  • Braddick; DCAM Franklin's post is right on target. As a payer exclusively, I,also am in the habit of sending Paypal payments within minutes of the end of an auction or any online purchase. However,I find that they usually included in their message "If payment has already been made, ignore this message".Nevertheless, there have been timed where I'd email the seller and ask if payment has already been made.
