Our "beta test" quota is getting close to being filled. If you are interested in helping us create the very best coin collecting program, please hurry and either download the software from our server at http://download.coinweb.org/ install it and register on-line, or if your download is too slow, please advise your mailing address and we will send you a cd-rom with the software and a preliminary manual at no cost. The software will cost $79.95 after Jan 31, 2003. If you test the software and register, and let us have your comments and ideas on how to improve it, what is wrong with it, what you would like to have in features, etc., after the beta period, your software will converted a full license and you will be able to continue to use and receive updates free permanently. You can run the program without registering it, but if you want the updates you must register.

Anyway to keep the program from crashing my computer when I exit? I'll try again today, I think...
Jeremy
While I am very new to coin collecting, I am strong in the Microsoft way (The Dark Star). When I installed the program on my W2K Pro laptop it did not work either. I even had the requisite Access 2K installed. Thats a bug. However, when I installed the Access 2002 runtime it worked fine. I have been putting a few coins in the db each night. Soon I will be testing the export/import function as I move it to my home server off the laptop. Anyone been doing the picture capture portion?? Please let me know if you are having problems I will be glad to help.

Airplanenut, any other messages when you close the program. What error is given when the crash occurs?

I'm just your average software engineer. Right now I'm developing some ebiz solutions (intra, extra, and internet) for an educational loan servicer/originator. Used to do some wireless and before that more traditional MFC development. Been using .NET since 12/01 and looking forward to 1.1 coming out next quarter. How 'bout yourself?

What makes this software program better than the already available alternatives?
<< <i>I can't get the beta progarm to work on windows 2000 pro. I surly won't pay 80.00 for it, but maybe the next vision will be better. good luck >>
Mac,
I will be happy to have one of my programmers NetMeeting into your computer and find out what is wrong. If you'd like us to do that, please email me directly at janrschwenk@attbi.com and we will set it up. You can interrupt his actions by hitting the {Esc] key at any time.
We would like to get the program working for you as we would appreciate your feedback.

Jeremy,
Same offer - if you like I can have one of our programmers NetMeeting into your computer to figure out what is causing it to crash.
Please email me directly if interested - and thanks for the kind words!

Dear KlectorKid,
Hope you don't mind my answering only your last message - glad you like it!
What you see in the program now is about 10% of what the finished program will do - little things like manage several auctions and stores all at the same time.
Please let us know what you like, what you don't like, what's missing, etc.
Thanks!

<< <i>The error is Microsoft's problem, not this programs. Go to the c:program filesmicrosoft access (if I remember right) where the .msi program was left. (or do a search for .msi and see where it turns up, there will be one that is obvious in an access install folder). Then double click that msi program. (MSI = Microsoft Install) It will walk you through the install. Just go with defaults. This was a problem I had as well. The problem is that Microsoft's packager didn't handle the silent install correctly so you'll have to do it manually. >>
NWCS,
Thanks for the tip and the help. It's odd but that bug does not occur on every installation - only a few. We are trying to track it down.
Thanks for the help!

Dan,
We have some "Dot Net" code and some other neat stuff in the program preparing to go full bore Dot-Net. Again, it is a little weird but it works on some Access 2000 but seems to work much better on 2002-XP. Once the new code is released, we wont have this problem.
Thanks for the help!

<< <i>Anyone find the total value of thier collection yet? I kinda looked around but did not see it. I am really focused on getting the data entry done.
Dan >>
Dan,
Something about the "cobbler's children ...". I'm afraid we have very limited reporting in the system right now. We are saving that for last, and I promise, we will deliver reports on the reports. Right now you can get total cost of your collection through our "right-hand Inverse double-flash-back Polish notation" methodology. Do a "Show all" from the Search Parameters, click on the "preview printout" icon at the lower left, export to Excel and total the cost column. (Sorry! really! We sort of forgot to put in any reports in this version). Reports will be added soon and will cover everything we can think of. Most of our customers tell us we go crazy on reports.

Scott,
Thanks for the tip, but I believe we can handle it. We've been writing software for major companies and even governments for a long time. We agree that any code can be broken but we feel that we can raise the bar high enough to make it not worth the trouble. I don't want to dare you but recently one of our Japanese customers (major electronics firm) decided they could trust our software with their family jewels.
By the way, you've no doubt heard (in illustrating infinity) that an infinite number of monkeys, typing on an infinite number of typewriters (pre-computer illustration), for an infinite period of time would re-create the great works of literature. Heard that? Well, the internet has proven them wrong!

<< <i>.NET is one of the most secure platforms developed. More secure than Java. Ultimately, all those features are only part of the answer (for any language/platform). It is the programmers; responsibility to implement good strategy. >>
NWCS,
You are right again, and right on!
