Stacking friction is not wear and does not prevent a coin from being uncirculated. The problem is when people attribute tiny wear to stacking friction. The series with the most forgiving rules for stacking friction is the St. Gaudens $20.
Stacking Friction generally will not be considered wear, as you should be able to tell the difference between one and the other. On the other hand, it will keep an otherwise perfectly good coin, from reaching gem status. Below is a Franklin half, which I think shows stacking friction perfectly on the face of Frankln, and in my opinion keeps this coin in the MS64 bracket.

How would you tell the difference? Lots of practice maybe? mdwoods
