Cleaning question

Hello all, I have a Morgan silver dollar with a black smudge on the obverse. I have no idea what caused it and have not tried to remove it. Can anyone give me any suggestions to try that will not damage the overall condition (AU) ? Thanks for any help that you can offer.

You can try soaking it in acetone for a few days and see if it loosens it enough that running water will remove it.

Was it near the hooka for a while?....I hate those kind of black stains.........oh......wrong forumimage

I would leave it if its not spreading, getting worse. Plus if its an AU whats the big deal unless its a good date. then again.......its only an AU, so practice your conservaratory skills on the lesser coins.

    Wheres my hooka?
