    I don't know. I thought that the edge reeding comes from the coin collar. How come this one shows marks of the half dollar reeding before the edge as the strike looks that it is offset. image

  • I think the planchet was off center within the dies, and when it was struck the part closest to the collar was forced into the collar making the reeding on part of the coin.

    A cool error, but I've always wondered about errors on the zinc cent planchets... seems like the exposed raw zinc would be more susceptible to corrosion.
  • Yes the cent planchet spread from the strike and reached the collar from about 8:00 to 11:00 so there is reeding showing in that area.
