  • There's probably not many - but I would say your best bet would be Liberty seated coinage - by virtue of the fact that it was around for such a long time!

  • Just from looking at catalogues I'd say 1897 or 1898 were the best for deep cameo proofs. I think that goes for most denominations...

    1898 Morgan dollar proofs.
  • It would have to be one of the morgan dollars.

KlectorKid, based on the October PCGS pop report, I believe (but could be mistaken, because I didn't want to look for too long) that the answer would be an 1882 Three Cent Nickel, with a "cameo" population of 44 pieces in all grades combined. That wouldn't have been my first guess.

I have an 1882 Seated Liberty Half Dollar in CAM, and it is great. You just can't believe how cheap they are, especially compared to Kennedys.

  • I though it was the 3-CN to.

  • 1898 was a really good year for well prepared dies for all Barber coinage. There is a really good chance that a proof from that year will be cameo.

for me certain cameo barber coins two particiular dates also available in deep cameo also three cent nicks come to mind so do morgan dollars a few seatred dates

but with the three cent nicks they are terribly undervalued underapprecaited coins in proof moreso in proof cameo and in deep cameo well a super rare bird

and as with all pre 1915dcam ultra coinage with a rare exception deep/ultra cameo coins are rare!!!!!!!!! super underapprecaited and so few that there has yet to be a correct market in them but they are one of the last frontiers that have not been touched as of yet

now with the services grading them they will increase in popularity and also in pops not great but enough that when the demand grows and knowledge and realization of them grows as it will also for the 36 to 42 cameo coinage
the prices will grow greatly but there needs to be more understanding of deep cameo 19 th and early 20 century coinage and with understanding the realization that it is out there and exists as most have never seen it or understand it or are just plain aware of it i mean you would be surprised of many dealers that do not really know or think it exists!

the 36 to 42 cameo coinage for me well the cameo on many graded coins is really not cameo close but no cigar but i think a three tier market will develop for it for the 36 to 42 cameo coins those that are NOT CAMEO those that are slightly cameo or are one dised and those that get into the cameo holders ngc/pcgs but watch out some are not real cameos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also the same for 1915 and before cameo coins some deep ultra graded cameos are not!!!!!!! only buy real deep ultra cameo coins also a great buy are coins that are monster cameos like really just miss deepultra cameo but still in cameo holders super undervalued!!!!! momnster undervalued! also coins that are in deepultra cameo holders that ARE LIKE waht someone told me he used the word stellar deep ultra cameo coins!!!!!!! those are the best of the best not only solid deep cameos ultra cameos but stellar really deep ultra plus!!!!!!!

also the ptroof 64 stuff deep cameo really undervalued as comapired to higher grades but make sure you buy cameos deep ca eos that are not super ugly hazy dipped coins i mean dipped cameos deep cameos are okie if they stuill have the right look and monster deep mirrors frost and great!!!!!!! eye appeal and i am sure a few out of every hundred dipped coins is great! but only some not all or most!!

and even if a coin is priced high but has the look of a liquid mirror and exceptional frost buy it!!!!! but the problem is many are afraid and do not know waht they are looking ast!! and there are incredible bargains around sometimes still but that will change also!!

lib nicks are super rare with deep cameo also popular series also well for me i guess they all are great!!!!! deep cameo trades come to mind also

as do ultra cameo seATED COINS

do not pay any premium for coins that are just made it cameos in holders!!!!!!!!!!!11

always go with eye appeal first even if a somewhat common cam deep cam 1896 1898 barber or morgan eye appeal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 hate to say commom but all are rare but comapired to many other dates they are i should really say more available!!!!!!!!!

lots of indians cent are nice cameos also!!! lots and lots and many really super proof indians red brown even some brown are cameos!!!!! but i think the services only grade red coins and the copper nickel indians cameo! if not too dark on the copper nickel indians!

halfdimes are super rare in deep cameo

and of course as to the above i am assuming proof

for me trade dollars real deep ultra cameo coins are rarer than seated dollars in proof but the seated are of course more oppular and in demand that is the key word here demand!!!!!!

i knoe someone that got the finest and still is the finest of any date 1938 proof 67 cameo pcgs walker in the holder last december 2001 it was a nice coin full cameo+ obverse and a high end 67 also and a full cameo- but still a full cameo reverse but not as nice as the obverse

this was not the mans coin but he sent it in for someone and his first ever submission to a grasing service ever!!!! in the many decades he has been studying thsees coins! he also got it graded for free!! he had one of those coupons in the back of the pcgs grading guide! the people over at pcgs saw the coin and it was the first no brainer cameo walker they had ever seen and graded as cameo that it got there as was graded in less than a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

this man also got the first highest graded deep cameo lib nick at pcgs last april?? this coin was a total monster and 67 pcgs but really a 68! monster!!!!!! one of the three finest proof lib nick he has ever seen !!!!!!!!1 in many decades of studying these coins!! in terms of the way the coin came off the die a fresh die and first off one of the first off where technically and looks wise it is just about perfect!

also other rare cameo/deep ultra cameo coins all pop one/2 some none higher !!!! all sent in for others by him!!

as he thought they would get the grade and designation but on some they graded a point lower..........lol
but i think that has to do more with politics than the right grade..............lol but that is okie better not maxed out in the holder people like that!

    sincerely michael
