error guy's- what causes this?

I just found this in pocket change. At first glance I just thought is was worn but when I turned it over it was easy to see these striations in the planchet. mike

But I work as a teller.......and every dime I have seen for that year looks very bad.
Especially on the obverse.

typical for the bulk of the coins made for circulation. The only thing that would
make it more typical would be if the dies were also extremely worn. The coin
is significantly higher grade than the bulk of this date in circulation. I have to
believe it sat out for years lying on a piece of cloth which caused the reverse
striations.
