Reasonable shipping?

nwcsnwcs Posts: 13,386 ✭✭✭
I've never seen a policy broken out like this... Link. What do you all think?

All orders will be charged a reasonable shipping charge. Registered mail will be used on orders exceeding $600.00 and to order destinations outside of the United States. The shipping charges include postage, insurance, materials, time to pack and wrap packages, time to fill out forms, time to drive to the bank vault to pick up coins and then to the post office, time waiting in line, $0.34 per mile driving, and a $20,000.00 automobile replacement expense. When lost packages must have a claim filed, the expenses add to our yearly shipping expenses, so we have come up with what we feel are very reasonable charges ($USA).

How can most of these possibly be determined prior to purchase? Not to mention that some of the charges are actually covered by required insurance coverages.

I don't even have to look to know that's Humphrey at CheapSlabs.image

  • The seller forgot the staples @ $0.002 each OR tape @ $0.035 per linear ft ...

Now on the other hand, should I charge him my time (at x $ per hour) to read all the extra words on the post or do I just move on ??

Why? Because he has a sense of humor? Humphrey is a great guy who treats his customers right. As an eBay seller, he has over 1000 positives and zero negatives.

  • I have never dealt with the guy but all I have EVER heard was good stuff.

very nice, if tongue partially in cheek, explanation of why shipping and handling isn't just the price of a stamp.

i wouldn't mind seeing half as good a justification for a 10% "restocking fee."

I have bought a boatload of slabs from these guys and never been disappointed. Today I bought four slabs, two rolls of Franklins and four rolls of GW quarters, and insured shipping was $14.48. They are a first class outfit in my book.

Well, have to say that when I read the fine print, it had me a bit confused. Instead of warm and fuzzies, it left me with a quizzical look. If it's all in good fun (which I'm not opposed to) then I think it'd be a good idea to have a smiley face or two in the paragraph for people who are not familiar with him.

There is always sooooo many problems with shipping fees and arguments. Whether it be Ebay, online, buying direct whatever.
I just don't see why a seller don't figure it in. Hey, then maybe the buyer will think they are getting a deal. Yea, I know but what about the auctions? I swear if I ever put anything to auction and even if it is a no reserve auction, I will start it at like let's say $3.30 so I'll get my shipping.

I've seen and been in deals that could be worth thousands and still a hassle over shipping. Just doesn't make sense to me. But I guess it gives something to argue and talk aboutimage

Edited to add: I mean look at this in reality: A seller is selling something and knows it has to be mailed whatever it is, they list it or put it up on a website or call you or whatever. But say it's going to cost x amount of dollars for this item, but if you want to receive it it's gonna be more. Why not just include shipping. Unless, maybe they know it's priced to high to begin with, and adding a few dollars or whatever is going to kill the deal.
