The Making of an Ebay Transaction from Helll

About 30 days ago, I won an AU Barber half from an Ebay seller who had all positive feedback on his purchases and this was his second sale. I have send him weekly messages and today received the following:

"I was wondering when you'd get in touch with me. I was thinking you died or something. I nearly did as well. The coin is in the car... which was put over an embankment on Highway 1. The car is at the bodyshop now, and I will drop in to get it tomorrow.

It seemed every time I stopped by fedex they were closed, or I forgot or something came up. I can understand that you would probably not leave positive feedback for me- I'll drop $20 into the fedex envelope for the inconvenience."

I feel I have about a 10% chance at best of receiving the coin. Likely scenario -- seller will say coin was not in the car, I filed an insurance claim and now need to wait for them to pay.

I have told him of Fedex's policy on insurance of numismatic items and told him to ship the coin USPS registered mail.

If I do not get a positive response in the next few days, I will post the sellers Ebay info.

Any advice on how to proceed other than filing an Ebay fraud form if things do not work-out?

It could be a true story. Is there a Highway 1 in his neck of the woods? Should be easy enough to verify at Mapquest.

I do not know where the seller is from, but there is a Highway 1, AKA the following: A1A, Route 1, US 1, Buchanan Blvd (in some places), Dixie HWY (in some places), Homestead Blvd (in some places) and probably more names to go along with it.
  • Highway 1 is near the sellers address.
  • Give him the benefit of the doubt and give him a few more days. Life throws us curveballs once in a while.
  • Those are all names of roads where I used to live...Hm...I used to travel them everyday image

You've waited 30 days, no harm waiting a few more days. I think the eBay time limit to complain to them (NOT feedback) is 45 days, so you may want to look into that and get an exact time frame.

Until your time is up, give him the benefit of the doubt - especially considering he has all positive feedback.
