I spent $1645 today and wasn't even for a coin. (Coin-related, though...)

Check it out! (I got the bottom color scheme, with gold trim not seen in the picture).

I get the feeling it'll pay for itself in time.

Pretty cool. You picked the best color, also.

First, it's good to see you back on these boards. You should avoid the darkside and go toward the light.... Second, what do you plan to do with your purchase?

I'm settin' up in a local antique mall. This particular one is in the old K-Mart building at the Glynn Place Mall, so it's not a junky little rinkydink roadside antique mall. While it is still largely empty of merchandise (it's new), I think it'll be a primo location. I will have a spot right by the front doors, and that will also be the closest point to the front doors of the big mall. A location in the mall for about $150 a month. Flat fee. No commission. Plus I don't have to be there all the time. They do most of the selling, collect the sales tax, and so on. Of course I'll need to keep a tight inventory on my coins. And carry my own insurance coverage. But I am optimistic. Many of the antique dealers set up there are already at least breaking even, if not making good profits. And the other merchandise they are selling seems to be of medium to high quality and class- not too junky (that wouldn't go over well in the mall, anyway). I would be the only coin dealer there, and only the second coin dealer within 75-100 miles, probably.

And I don't have to package and ship the stuff I sell! Woohoo!

  • I think that would be a great thing for the house. You could fill it up with your coins, plug it in and watch your coins go around. Beat's watching TV.

    Maybe I'll get one too.

Very nice! I have been looking for an old video game or two for the house but a turntable coin display would be awesome!

Will your mom let me come over to play?

It seems to be the perfect kind of thing for a semi-self-serve operation. Nice!

Are you going to call it "Lord Marcovan Coins?"

OK, I approve of your purchase! image I am not 100% familar with the mall that you are discussing--is it in a decent area of town or is it near the Brunswick coin dealer that I was looking for but was unable to find? Regardless, how about in the future I'll let you know when I am coming up to St. Simon's and you can put in your case a bunch of PCGS PQ coins that are woefully underpriced? Then I'll post on these boards what a sucker...opps, I meant NICE guy that Lord Marcoven is!!

By the way, I do suggest that you NOT sign any long-term leases. I have a friend whose wife sells jewerly using the same method you are trying and 1) it's a lot of work because she has to replenish her stock constantly, and 2) she changed locations a bunch of times before she found some locations that work OK for her.

Local coin dealer has one of those. It's pretty neat but I don't browse in that area much as it's full of gold
    stuff I can't afford.
