the coin I DIDN'T buy

Conjuring up the courage to crack the pcgs boards once again...

I've been putting together my little type set of Gold and stumbled upon a 1854-O PCGS XF-45 $3. Well, that would be a little different
for a type set. The auction closed at $1680. No, I didn't bid-here's why. The seller-in broken English-told me that he would not refund
the coin if I wasn't happy with it. He just said PCGS graded it and other people had bid on it. His scans were outstanding and clearly
showed the weak strike that is apparently endemic to that issue. Since I'm only looking for a nice common-date AU-58 with nice toning,
and the winning bidder wasn't even a coin collector (the seller sold raw coins), I passed. I returned a 1874 PCGS 58 $3 that I purchased from a nice guy in St. Louis (Joe Hanon) because of stains/spots and a weak strike, though the color was nice. He refunded all but my return shipping ($10). Fair enough.

Yes, I have a history of being careful with purchases (huh?). But when I pull the trigger, well, you've all seen what I have come up with.

Like some one told me, there's plenty of coins out there, and for the pricier stuff, might as well wait 'til Long Beach.

Take care,
Barney (on the mend)

I think you did the right thing. No Return, no bid.

    Welcome back too.

hi barney, good to here from you again, you did the right thing, its not like you wont be able to find another one, or maybe something even better, a no return policy, forget them. deal with someone who stands behind what they sell.......and... oh by the way......do you still have that beautiful toned morgan dollar, you got ...stuck with.....okay...okay...we all make mistakes, if you want to...get rid of it. let me know....

I can't believe the seller wouldn't offer a return policy. No loss there because when you find the example you want, you won't even remember passing up something that wasn't quite what you wanted.
  • Yeah Ron, and it's not going anywhere. I guess I'll have to "live" with that one!image
