Cleveland Show Plus A fresh CherryPick from the show. Pic inside.

Drove up to Cleveland today. Got there right after it started. Weather was pretty rough but show was very packed with people for first hour or so. I've never been bumped into so much....thought I was on Bourbon St. Show should really be in a larger room or 2 rooms. I wasn't impressed about paying $4 to get in.

As weather continued to get worse I think attendance dwindled. Saw alot of raw coins. Lots of PCGS/NGC/ANACS coins. Don't think I saw ACG anywhere. Only saw a few toned coins. Saw quite a bit of money here and there changing hands too.

Ran into a guy (Butternut) that deals in Large Cents. He sure has some nice stuff! Also met a couple of board members. Quarterjack. Nice guy! Got a couple things for my boy from him. Also met Clevegreg at Quarterjack's table.

I decided to check out everyone's FE cents that I could. I was just about to the last table and spotted the one pictured below. Bought it as a normal 1857. My first cherrypick at a show.

FS#1c 003 Snow9 Obv. clashed with 50c

That one (until I find a nicer one) will go with this one that I picked up the other nite! RARE!!!

    Congratulations,

Great going, very nice find! Having completed a set of all three (Snow-7, 8, 9) I can appreciate your accomplishment. It is a tough set to complete, or to find any component. The $20 clash is real tough, and you got a very nice, exceptional coin there as well.image

Sorry the weather kept me home today, goose. I really wanted to get there. Sounds like a nice cherrypick, too.

Butternut (Col. Steve Ellsworth) really knows his Colonials and early copper. I saw a presentation he made at the ANA Summer Seminar. I shopped his table at the Colorado Springs show for a Fugio cent but he wanted more than I was willing to pay.

The weather should be nicer tomorrow - since you saw the show today, is it worth a 2 hour drive? They were advertising 100 dealers - what did you think?

    Kranky,
I didn't think you'd try it today and I was glad you didn't. The turnpike was a NIGHTMARE!!!!! Crashes Everywhere!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, I drove about 1.5 hours (a little longer than it would normally be due to weather). I don't think I'd recommend a 2+ hour trip. Just my opinion tho. Maybe clevegreg and quarterjack feel differently.

There were some nice coins there but thats a long drive.

Nice coins. I see a lot of S-9's on ebay. Don't think I have ever seen an S-7 on ebay. Tough coin and big bucks for any grade. Want a real challenge try to find the quarter to match the S-8. The stories about the Midnight Minter are great fun. We will probably never know what really went on.

Me neither, until a few days ago.

Weather is supposed to be just cloudy, no snow, so I think I'm going to go. Let's hope they have the Turnpike cleared by tomorrow morning! It's probably my last chance to get to a show that size until May (or March, if I can go to the Baltimore show).

I made it to the show today. Enjoyed meeting keets, quarterjack, clevegreg, and CLASSICS and his wife. Every one of them very nice people. I don't think there were 100 dealers there like they advertised, and like goose3 said the room layout was very tightly packed - lots of bumping into other people. I did nab a nice haze-free 1942 T2 Jeff in NGC Proof 67 for my proof type set.

CLASSICS, you ought to share some of your stories here. I enjoyed them!

You bought a coin! post a pic!

I would guesstimate that there were roughly 40-50 dealers there unless I missed a second room!!!!!image

I've tried, but I can't get a decent (actually, my attempts so far are a long way from "decent") picture of that coin with either the scanner or the digital camera. I'll try again tomorrow with the camera if I can get better lighting.

Oh, I did spot one table with ACG slabs (goose3 probably missed it because it was right across from Butternut and he was mesmerized by the early copper image ). The guy also had some NTC and SEGS but it was about 75% ACG. Other than that guy, I saw very few ACG slabs.
