Very nice coin. Cheap!

If you don't collect Dahlonega's, you should. Where else could you own a little piece of histry with a story like this behind it?

1853-D Gold Dollar, NGC MS66

This is the only 1853-D graded MS66 by either PCGS or NGC. In the entire series of Dahlonega coinage, only 7 coins have graded MS65 in the entire range of gold coins produced that year in Dahlonega ($1.00, $2.50 and $5.00), and this coin is the finest Dahlonega piece to have ever been struck that exists in MS66 grade.

The coin was not even known to exist prior to an early 1980's Jackson, TN excavation crew building a parking lot and discovered several hundred U.S. gold coins carefully packaged and burried nearly 8 ft. deep. A free-for-all ensued and the luckiest and fastest sold their booty to local coin shops for slightly over gold value. The story has it that a coniving scheming bank president stold them from his bank and burried them just before he got caught. Finest Dahlonega known - one of one. It was kindly offered to me but I decided to pass. They're only asking $109,873 but you could probably get it for $109,870 even.

Oh, and by the way. It is pretty!
U.S. coin collector since 1943. Have tried desperatly to keep every coin that has come to hand, but unfortunately, some got away.
