Interesting auction - considering the offer to help train someone is included. But it would be difficult to figure what an appropriate bid would be when no doubt some of the asking price includes "the business" and isn't solely based on the value of the inventory.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
To PaigeowJohnny: "I don't doubt that he's a great guy." Start doubting! He put 2 very diffeent coins up for sale on E-bay in the same auction. I wanted one only. Together they failed to reach his reserve. I offered to buy one after the sale at twice his cost. He turned me down -- said he spent $300 in grading fees alone to try to upgrade, and failed. I told him I wouldn't pay for his follish decisions.
He had obtained that coin from a forum fellow member after begging for it at half price and claiming he needed if for his collection to match the color of his well known '81-o. Being the gentleman that he is, this forum member then sold Mike the coin at Mike's asking price. I saw the coin within an hour of Mike's purchase. It was displayed in his case, obviously for sale. I offered a 60% profit for holding the coin 1 hour. Turned me down, wouldn't quote a price.
A little later he then offered this coin on E-bay as a pair with another. After the first failure he tried many more tiomes. The pair never reached its reserve. I saw him at ANA, and again offered him a fair price, which he declined. I then asked why in the world he was auctioning the disparate pair. And, he told me his little boy thought that was a good idea.

Do you suppose he'll start another?

Don't you just hate it when you bid a million dollars and still don't meet the reserve?
I wish him good luck...I can't make the reserve...
