Probably be banned from bidding, but I don't care

I won 3 Ikes in bidding from Antiquities Bureau. The bidding stated that there is a $2.50 s/h on each. Total $7.50.
I E-mailed and was told they did not combine s/h for multi-bids. Fineimage

I sent 3 payments in 3 envelopes, one each for each coin. If they want to charge seperately, then I'll pay seperately.
Here comes the coins all in one package. Total $1.06 in postage.
I just E-mailed them to express my displeasure that each coin was not sent individually.

Their reply:

"It is not like you paid top dollar for each coin, like others you took into
consideration the total cost and probably just bid $2.50 per coin lower than
what you thought they were worth to you. Others do the same thing."

antiquitybureau

They had no idea what I was thinking when bidding, but they now know what I
think of them.

Edit: I can't link to seller antiquitybureau. They now have changed their policy. They set the minimum at $2.50 (O surprise!) and will now combine
shipping for a $3.50 charge. A double wammey if you go for one item.image

Edit Sat Evening: Got a EMail from antiquitybureau stating they read this thread and it was "no big deal". As a small business man, I feel losing one customer is a big deal. Keeping some respect from peers in this forum is even a bigger deal. Oh well.

I'm surprised they wouldn't combine. Very greedy of them.
  • These people always do this on thier auctions (won't combine shipping) - that's why they will never receive another bid from me.

I have delt with them in the past, bought some raw morgans (all cleaned). I would leave a neutral feed back on their shipping policies, or if you really are displeased neg them...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

7.50 shipping and they didn't have the decency to at least spend 1.30 to insure the stuff.

I can't stand sellers like this that profit from S/H and refuse to bid on anyone's stuff like that or where the s/h charges are excessive.

I would suggest that you do the same in the future.

Also, I never bid on anyone's stuff when s/h is not stated!! Got burnt one time doing that. Never again.
  • Sounds like a dealer to avoid.....not for the shipping, but for the snippy response.
  • I hate to be the contrarian but S&H does include a lot more then postage. It can cover auction fees, Paypal fees, envelopes, tape and time and effort. Also that amout is not included in the amount that Ebay charges the seller on. It can make the difference between making and losing money.

I always just include it into my buying price and if they combine S&H then it is a bonus.

If they do not mention combining S&H and you do not ask before bidding how can you complain? And why? Was the price good or not? If the combined price was good then what are you complaining about? If you don't buy at what you know is a good price, who are you hurting?

    Just a thought.

  • you should have given three different shipping addresses for the coins. work, home, friend.

You had every right to expect three separate packages - their policies are dishonest becuase they "combined shipping" but wouldn't let you. Thanks for the information. Their "snippy response" is inappropriate. I will avoid them - NO MORE NASTY SELLERS!image

Personally, sellers who pull these shenanaigans should be boycotted. I have no problem with sellers stating up front what their shipping policy is, but to say that you bid based your bid on their shipping policy - they are out of line with that statement. Don't buy from these greedy, piggy, insulting, deceptive sellers ever again. image

Thank you for the opportunity to rant and rave about this issue.

Reveal these clowns! We can bombard them with questions concerning their auctions and disagree with their crap and express no interest in bidding in their auctions. If they realize they are losing potential buyers, They might change their policy.

Ya, let's do it, who are they!

  • They reak of cheapness. Disgusting....
  • It appears they are figuring part of the value of the item in the postage. If I'm not clear it's kinda like that guy awhile back that was selling a couple hundred dollar coin for something like a dollar then his shipping cost was $200, a way of avoiding fees. This might be a minor example of that stunt and you could complain to safe harbor although we all know they won't do crap. Still I would at least Neg him for poor treatment to his customers and excessive postage.

There is no doubt that this seller sucks, but before you guys lynch them for this alleged offense you should know that their auctions stated very clearly in GIANT letters that they DO NOT combine shipping charges. There should have been no doubt about this issue.

They have since changed that policy. They probably got tired of all the negatives from people who don't bother to read before they bid.

If they charge full shipping for each one, then he should have received the coins in three packages- obviously they made an extra profit by combining THEIR costs, but not combining his. I wouldn't give anything above a neutral- maybe a neg for the rip off (item's not shipped as described) and for the terrible attitude they had... do they WANT customers?

    russ,

i know they state their terms but then why does the seller combine THEIR shipping but not the buyer's cost? i'd neg that for sure. or i'd tell the seller that i still hadn't received 2 packages.

reminds me of key west when a hotel manager told me that it was $85 a person for a room. i told him that my girlfriend and i wanted separate rooms then - and he refused. he actually tried to come up with an argument in his favor.

i eventually gave him the money because my girlfriend was there. girls are negotiation killers.

...then there's the ones that will send your under $100 in value coin in a 2x2,in an envelope with first class postage affixed and no insurance after you've paid them $2.50 for S/H/I to include insurance...how much do mailer packages for coins cost?...a quarter apiece if bought in small quantities, even less if bought in larger quantities?...even receiving the relatively inexpensive coin in a small bubble package is okay with me...

guess what? a seller who i suspect is trying to increase his profits in the fashion of the example above,by using the money i have sent him for S/H/I, has just made his last sale to me...and he gets no,zero, nada feedback...even if i like the coin...

i don't care if the seller makes a few cents on excess S/H/I...just send the coin in a proper package,insured...give me what i'm paying for...is that too much to ask?

They have over 17,000 positives, 300+ neutrals and 161 negatives. They must have pi**ed off a few people along the way. That acounts for one neutral or negative for every 37 positives. Not a very stellar ratio IMHO. I wouldn't buy from them, not because of their policy, but because of their feedback track record.image

All it takes is a little organization for a seller to be able to send multiple won items in one package and be able to give his/her good buyer a break on S/H/I...

Why can't a seller design all the coin auctions for a day to be spaced to end fairly close to each other in time?...

That way,a bidder that wins more than one coin will have won his coins within a few minutes of each other after each auction closes...

The seller then looks for names of coin winners that appear more than once within the fairly narrow time interval (say, just 2 or 3 hours) that his coin auctions close and is able to combine items for shipment...it can't be that tough to do with a little organization and planning...

Seller sends one email to the buyer after calculating S/H/I for the multiple coin shipment...

Some sellers are just lazy i think...

Its the same kind of B/S that I get when I pay for insurance and the package comes uninsured.
,but at least I have proof that I paid for the insurance in case it gets lost. I encourage everyone to
read the shipping charges policy very carefully on each item they bid on. As always, every venue has
people who are infested with greed. I hate those who take advantage of bidders.

    Best regards,
    Brian.
  • Tade: I purchased some Pr.State Quarters from them also.I asked for mine not to be sent in one package but that's the way they came.If you noticed just about everything they have on e-may is either MS69 or PR69.Even though they were not (probably 64 or 65) I was happy with them(the coins).I am trying to put 2 good sets together so that's a beginning.
