I can imagine ym wife if I spent 4 figures (or 5!) on a Lincoln Cent! It's interesting to me that the market values these to that level. I was just talking to my son about how supply, demand, and condition drive the value of collectibles. We were comparing coins like the 32-D & S Washingtons, the 16-D Merc, and the 27-S SLQ. While all have relatively close mantages, the values (we compared low grade) are extremely different.

  • How about the 1964 RB MS64 for $660. Someone got a great deal on this rare coin.

I also looked at the prices realized, and wasn't surprised at any of them. Some of those coins would look good in any collection.Even the Proofs were in great demand.I still believe the Lincolns will only rise in demand, along with prices.IMHO
I hope Heritage updates their "My Collection" section. It will let me know a truer value for MY Lincolns!

You can't just look at mintages but how many coins were saved. Go to any major coin show and you can find 1932-D and S Quarters in any grade. Being a first year of issue many were saved.

Finding a 1916-D dime in any grade higher than good is a major pain. Same with the 1927-S Quarter. For some reason 1916-D dimes weren't saved even though it's a first year coin.

Stewart: You sure mentioned many of the great coins. I could not "compete" on the MS side of things, although I certainly could have bid higher on the 15(s) & 30(d) (but would have lost anyway). I figured the 1915(s) was a PCGS-MS66RD, but never considered the outside chance it could MS67RD (which the winning bidder figured)!!

I did win the 1950 Proof you mentioned. What a truly wonderful coin.
