digital camera or scanner for coin pics?

the colors of this Toned Morgan seem flat in a scan
under light they JUMP out at you

  • I like the Nikon CoolPix 995. Others seem to like the Richie (sp?) and have success with it as well

    Very few scanners will capture color or luster on a coin. While a scanner is quick and easy to use, a digital camera is much better at shooting coins.

  • Both have their places. Scanner for details, camera for luster.

    The pic i included shows great detail but the dark edge from the rim inward is blue under light .

    This was done with an hp scanner

    What scanner did you use for that scan?

    I'm looking for a scanner that shows hi-res detail in slabbed coins like that.
