I belive that this coin is genuine and not a counterfeit; however I would like some opinions here before I submit it to a grading service. Tell me what you thinkimage22rev 22obv 22obv 22obv

I'm no expert on these , but comparing it to my PCGS F15 coin it appears to be harsely cleaned and the reverse almost seems too strong. Hard to tell from the scan though. I don't have my PCGS grading guide right now so I can't look up the dignostics

Thanks 09s, I have compaired it to my PCGS counterfeit book and all the pieces seem correct but I agree that the rev seems very strong. What do you see that makes you think it is cleaned?

  • Chris,

At first glance I was thinking the coin was cleaned also. Just the color looked off, which could be the picture. Hope it is right. That is an awsome reverse .

  • I would think with this strong reverse it is die 2 which is the real 22 no d variety. The last 2 in the date just doesn't look right to me, but I could be wrong. The one I own shows the last 2 higher than this 2. Just my opinion.

Hmm; I don't know about the two Ogden. The only reference book I have says that the last 2 should be sharper and the tail should be flat. Anyone else know about this.

It does seem to have all the characteristics of a genuine no "d" piece.

Letters R t joined at top, strong word TRUST compared to In God WE

also, the date digits look right the 2's

The coin does not appear to be cleaned to me from the photo's

The revers does look a little too strong even for the strong reverse, and so does the obverse strike,

If it is a genuine piece, then youll hit a homerun on this coin, its one of the nicest circulated ones I have seen.
Should get a high cir grade on this one

Thanks jdimmick, the very strong obv and rev are what I am most afraid of PCGS bodybagging it for.

I agree that all of the obverse diagnostics match. But that reverse is unbelievably strong! You gotta send that one in.

A little more to add here... I saw a 1922 no D Strong Reverse in a PCGS AU53 slab at the Cleveland show today. The seller was taking some time to discuss the coin with a teenager who asked about it (not knowing what it might cost).

The seller pulled out the PCGS pop book and said there were 19 of these slabbed in MS, 15 in AU58, 20 in AU55, and 13 in AU53. I looked at the coin and if that one was AU53, I think yours would go at least AU55.

That appears to be a TRUE 1922 NO D cent. It has the characteristic Stronger second 2 in the date and L from LIBERTY is mushed into the rim. The reverse is also much stronger than the obverse.

    Die Pair #2!
