Just bought $200 in halves at the bank, and I found...

Noda, Zilch, nothing, time to find another source for Kennedy's..
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Yeah, but at least you can always return the change. Although the bank won't like you anymore. :-)

  • In addition to the silver and silver clads, you can also look for the 1974D DDO variety. The doubling is most pronounced on the RUS of TRUST. image
  • Hopefully you'll have fun spending them!!

  • The tellers must have thought you were having one heck of a poker game.
They will ask me a lot of times what I am going to do with all the rolls.
I always mention to the teller that I need the halves and some Sac's for
a card game coming up and that the coins make good chips. They seem to
try and help me more when I tell them that instead of telling them
I am searching for silver coins. I don't like to draw suspicion
to my real intentions. Don't give up looking, just try different
banks and branches. You will hit pay dirt at some point. I
spend the coins, I never return them to the banks.

In case you missed my post last week, I got 3 rolls of halves
while out of town in a small bank and got 21 40% out of the 60 coins.
That is not a typo, I said 21 coins. I look all the time for the 1974-D ddo too.

Help PLEASE on the 1974-D DDO:

Any other distinguishing characteristics we can look for on
that coin besides the doubling? I haven't seen one up close so
I don't know the intensity of the doubling but it
looks pretty faint. Any one have one? Please comment if
you have the coin - thanks.

Actually one of the tellers told me that one of the other branches has 2 ($1000) bags of halves that came from the coin counter. Going today to pick one up and try that...image

  • Another newbie question. I know nothing about Kennedy halves and can't find an answer in my reference books. What do you look for in determining the composition of a coin (ie. is it silver, clad, or other)? Thanks.

  • I just bought $200 worth of half dols 15 minutes ago from a
bank branch that is closing. Coins have been in their vault
for a while. I am checking them tonight. So does anyone
    have a 1974-D DDO half?
