Am I alone...My latest classics submission...2 out of 10???

Am I crazy for expecting a better than 50/50 ratio of coins graded exactly as or better than I expected???(from pcgs/ngc)
Seeems like maybe 6 months ago I was hitting maybe 7 or 8 out of 10 coins at the grade or better at both pcgs and ngc.
The only bright spots were a modern submission and a ngc gold special submission in an otherwise abyssmal flow of LOSER submissions(economy and express/earlybird).image
Anyone else submitting classics and getting pi**ed?image
Even Anacs, my ace in the hole, seems to be trying to grade tougher than pcgs/ngc.I got buffalo nickels 2 or 3 grades lower than pcgs(who I thought were 1 grade off).

A dealer once asked me if I noticed any three-legged buffalos on the bourse,to which I replied,"...no,but I saw alot of two-legged jackasses..."

I am, or I should say I was submitting. No more, till PCGS gets its act together. Nada...zippo... Their grading standards have changed. There are several recent threads to this point.
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.
  • My own crossover results were 2 for 7. I agree that PCGS is being unnecessarily tough. I read once that the graders change every couple of months, or so. Maybe that’s why the grading standards seem to go in cycles. Maybe someone could comment on whether this is true or not. It seems like there’s some luck involved when it comes to the timing of a submission.

Maybe this submission was a fluke. Have you been having that kind of luck with other recent submissions, or just this one?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • No fluke,Kranky.
    This has been about a 6 month dry(ing) spell(dozen or so invoices) at all 3; PCGS,NGC,and Anacs.image
Before that, sure, a few flukes, a dabble of fingerprints, my fair share of bodybags, etc. but even these could be rectified by trying another brand or resubmitting later on. Now I just brace myself for the next let-down.image
I`m starting to wonder if it`s just me...image
I used to sell almost everything raw, but after a few shockinglyimage good submissions to NGC, then PCGS, I realized I was leaving money on the table selling everything raw.Now all the money`s going to the slab mills.
Maybe it is time to go back to my vest-pocket roots... sell raw.

That's the worst thing you can do.

I've been finding NGC to be consistent with grading and tough on bodybags. PCGS..um..well, I don't know what they are doing.

I've got some classic coins in at ANACS right now. They should be done in a few days. I'll report back with my impression.
