The waiting game...

My submission was received Nov. 1st, been waiting for the E-Mail and couldn't wait any longer. I had to call and ask where it was in the process. Well as of yesterday afternoon it's in 1st verification. This is the order that makes or breaks PCGS for me. It has some AH halves (Russ would be proud), some cameo moderns (60-64) and some cracked out MS65 ANACS Morgans. If I take a big hit on the grades, then I guess it's time to look for another grading company. My last 3 or 4 submissions have been, well not very good. Modern proofs, right out of proof sets and not a 69DCAM in the bunch. Six months ago, maybe one or two PR68DCAM and the rest 69s... I'll post the results when they come in (should be the next few days). Sorry for the rant, but I'm really getting sick of sending good coins in and getting SH!T grades back...
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I'm sick of getting the bad grades back too but look at the whole picture. Overall with modern coins PCGS coins are liquid and the ones you can get the big numbers for. There is such a fine line between 68 and 69 it's next to impossible for them to be consistent. You just have to keep sending them in and figure the average over a long period of time and not just a few invoices in a row. At least that's my opinion.

By the way I can feel it in my bones that PCGS is going to be making a lot more 70 coins so maybe you'll get some of those. It's not just what David Hall said about .5 - 2% of modern coins should be 70. if Collectors Universe needs to make more money than they need more submissions. The easiest and fastest way to do that is to start grading coins 70. Mad Marty, I hope you are one of the lucky ones to get some!!!!!

heck, I'm having trouble right now recoving the $10 slabbing fee with 69DCAM moderns (just graded too.) If they start handing out 70's again, 69's won't even be worth submitting.
  • Is it just me or does it seem like something is wrong when a PF68DCAM is considered to be a crummy grade?

    Marty,

I had two submissions hit on the same day as yours. One, a modern, already posted. While I missed the DCAM designation on two of the coins (went only CAM), all but one came back a point higher than I had in my notes. Matter of fact, my last five submissions have all been right in the ballpark of what I was expecting.

Of course, now that I've said that, the other submission that hit on the first (an economy, all 1964 proof JFKs) will probably suck.image I have one in that group that better go 69, or I know they're full of crap. The coin is flat-out perfect.image

Waiting on the results of HOOT'S AG03/FA02 1993 Kennedy along with a GD04 1950-D nickel (and some killer toned stuff, just to round it all out).
