It's OK, Russ. A person with an eBay ID that was REALLY similar to AgentJim007's ID sniped me on a choice 1994 Silver proof set last night. It went for less than the half was worth.
I'm hoping that it means the dime has a "Pointed Tail" on the 9 in the date. '64 proof sets with the pointed tail nine most likely will also contain an Accented Hair Kennedy. I hope, I hope, I hope.
<< <i>Do you mean the writing says "pointed tail?" and what is that? >>
CD,
Correct. It refers to the tail on the "9" of the dime. My experience has, thus far, been that 100% of pointed nine dime sets have contained Accented Hair Kennedys.
<< <i>And what is it worth? >>
I don't think the dime has any premium, that's not what I'm after so I just stuff those in the tubes with the rest and sell them.
Russ, Do you have a picture of what the pointed nine looks like? I'll even settle for a description. Thanks. Rick II
I've had great transactions with people like: drwstr123, CCC2010, AlanLastufka, Type2, Justlooking, zas107, StrikeOutXXX, 10point, 66Tbird, and many more!
Thanks Russ. Between your AH Kenndys and pointed dimes, you have some great pictures. If you want to help narrow down who contacted the seller, it wasn't me. Hope that helps! Rick II

Not only is it something I would do, it's something I've frequently done. Somebody beat me to the punch this time, though. I was hoping that her auctions would stay under the radar screen so I could get all the sets cheap. But, that bloodhound Clark sniffed them out.
<< <i>So this is begging the question,Why aren't they worth more? >>
If you mean the sets themselves, it's because not everybody knows that the pointed nine dime sets contain Accented Hairs. Heck, many dealers don't even know it. So, the only time they bring a premium is when a collector or dealer recognizes the correlation.
Though yours was probably already shipped by the time I sniped mine... was the seller alerted to the AH issue when the 'buyout' occurred, and what are the chances that while I might receive a set in an envelope marked "Painted Tail" that it will actually contain the original set that was in it?

<< <i>Why did you want that one? >>
Jeremy,
Read the auction description and see if you can figure it out.
Russ, NCNE
Is this a doubly rare Accented Hair Kennedy, that also has a "painted hair" eagle on the reverse?
It refers to somebody with bad handwriting.
Clark,
Had to pay you back.

That would be correct.
I'm screwed now, though. Clark has found this seller's auctions. I grabbed one from her a couple days ago for $6.

<< <i>Clark you meanie, your Grounded! Now goto your room till I figure out how to properly punish you! >>
Not like how you "punished" bear yesterday, I hope!
Any chance I could... ummm.... eh.... pick my own punishment?
<< <i>Ooh, Ooh, I know, I know. let's see, maybe the "a" isn't really an "a"?! >>
If I may,...um...interrupt Lucy and Clark and their "punishment...."
I am still learning. Do you mean the writing says "pointed tail?" and what is that? And what is it worth?
...Now back to your regularly scheduled punishment....

PROOF KENNEDY HOG
but we all knew that.....
<< <i>Ha Ha >>
, Russ got out sniped!!! Ya gotta love it....
Lately I haven't been getting my fill; been going hungry. Seems to be too much competition developing.
Russ, NCNE
<< <i>but Russ is a PROOF KENNEDY HOG >>
Lucy has no issue with this, but if he ever starts with Proof Frankies then he will incur the wrath of the HepKitty!

Pointed on the left, normal on the right.

BTW, she told me she made up the part about "painted tail" being written on the envelope.
Russ, NCNE
You have read my previous posts in this thread, right? She sent me these pics, before I purchased.

Cool, we're still at 100% with the pointed nine dime theory.
Russ, NCNE
And of the other 5-6 proof sets I bought since knowing about the pointed 9. All were pointed.

edit-should I trademark that word I just made up?

It has some small non-dippable milk spotting on the obverse. No better than PR65 as is, 66 if I can reduce it enough.
Russ, NCNE
You'll be fine. I've had several eMail exchanges with her, and she seems like a very honest person.

Just got mine today. Same deal with the spotting. But, it is "Painted Tail" set!
