Results of submission on my bust dollar

I promised to let the forum know after I submitted the coin for grading. ANACS authenticated the coin and noted it to have EF details and net graded it F-15. They said the obverse was reengraved as many of you thought. However the reverse is original. I'm not an expert but the reverse sure seems like it's AU+. I intend to send it off to NGC to see what they will grade it. Several of the forum members hit it on the head with the EF details. I may put it up for sale at Ebay in the future. Too bay it had to be fooled with. It is a beautiful coin. Great to hold a part of history that some of our great grandparents may have help. Sentimental, Huh?

  • NGC will send it back to you in a bodybag, they might take it if it was cleaned, but not retooled.

It likely will not get slabbed by NGC because the re-tooling is so obvious. ANACS is about the only third party certification service with a good reputation that will net grade coins. Leave it in the ANACS holder and save your money on the NGC submission.

You can not get a "altered" coin slabbed at ngc or pcgs. Many "problem" bust dollars are sold in the major auctions in anacs slabs and get pretty good bids.

There is also NCS now (part of the NGC parent company). While they are brand new they do have the NGC "backing" and they will become well respected. They also don't "net grade" which is a nice thing.

i think ncs is a much better idea. they will put it in a slab with some sort of description of the problem, although if it's tooled there's no way they'll allow it to pass through to ngc. not sure if they put a details grade on something like this.
    good luck
