My 1998-W $50 Platinum Eagle PCGS PR-70DCAM for sale!!!

I am not trying to advertise here... I am trying to clear my name...

I have a 1998-W $50 Platinum Eagle PCGS PR-70DCAM up for sale and the auction ends in a few hours. You can see the auction at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=801383269

Triplexotica is going around telling everyone that I am fraud because the photo of the coin is his ex-coin and I can't possibally have the coin for sale... THE PHOTO OF THE COIN IS NOT THE COIN I AM SELLING... This is what is listed on the auction page:

*****PLEASE READ*****

The photo of the coin above is not the actual coin I am selling. I do not have a digital camera so I borrowed this photo. The coin I am selling is registered at the PCGS Registry as owned by me. If any of you want I will be more than happy to email you the link to it.

Here are the Cert numbers:

99767 - 5004474

Right now the coin's high bid is about $300 under what its' worth. I don't want people to not bid because of the photo. I am fully verified through Ebay and Paypal. Paypal has a money back guarantee against fraud. Thanks

Hadn't heard you were accused of being a fraud. You description seems clear and straight-forward enough to me. Are you in trouble for "borrowing" the picture from someplace you shouldn't have "borrowed" it from?
  • I don't know.... triplexocita says that it is his "ex-coin" and I should take it down. But I borrowed it from an auction receintly run by Tyming. I have neither heard from Tyming nor the guy that bought it... If they want that photo taken down... I will in a heart beat. What would you do if a guy emails you and said... "I used to own that.. but I don't anymore. Take that photo down or I will get you for fraud" And the guy that told you that wasn't the current photo or merchandise owner...

If the coin picture isn't copyrighted by somebody, I can't imaging why anyone would get all upset, since you state clearly and prominently that the depiction is only an example of the coin you're selling.
  • I have 44 auctions up and most end within 3 or 4 hours. All have borrowed photos. Yet this triplexotica is the only one to complain. AND HE EVEN BID ON ONE OF MY AUCTIONS! look:

Maybe it's time to buy a camera or a scanner.

Like dpoole said if the photo doesn't have a copyright you can do anything you want. I wouldn't worry about it. You aren't intentionally doing anything wrong. The problem is when people use others photos to sell coins they don't have. Hopefully you aren't doing that.image

I'd tell him where he could shove it.

You could just edit out the serial number in the photo and then no one could complain.
  • I wish I could... but the photo is at andale... I can't upload the photo without the links changing.... So I'd lose the photo altogether.

I thought you couldn't edit the picture once a bid is placed. You've got nothing to worry about.

If the photo is linked from your own web site, then you can change the image. When someone views the auction (which is not changed), they load the now changed picture without even knowing it.

Greg though you're mean and evil you sure are smart and very good about sharing what you know. You usually give pretty good coin advice.
  • which reminds me of a funny story. There was this guy that bought a cd of kids software on Ebay. Then that guy that bought it copied the whole ad that the seller had (word for word) and made copies of the disc and began reselling the cd. What the buyer forgot to do was find his own server for the photos... So the origional seller changed all his photos to some african tribal sex ritual photo spread. So now you have the reseller selling kids software... but when the parents viewed the auction.. it showed some naughty stuff that even Pee-Wee Herman wouldn't like!
