Spinoff thread...prompted to give it it's own thread...??? for everyone.

I was prompted by a few members to spinoff a question I had posted on "wingedliberty" poll thread...so here it is.

I sold what I believe to be the highest paid price for a clad quarter...probably any clad coin for that matter...over $16,000. To a dealer mind you.

I will give a free 1943 D Steel Cent PCGS MS66 (you pay for shipping) to the first person to guess what the coin was.

morris <><

ps, I believe I told a few forum members about it so please if I told you, no guessing...we are curious as to the guesses as well as some thoughts for such a high price for a clad coin.

    Morris,

Was it an error or mule?

My guess is similar....a 1965 silver quarter.

Well, I admit my first guess was a 1964 SMS half, but then again, they weren't clad. How about a 72-D Ike in MS67.

I didn't read the post carefully enough the first time...it couldn't be a 1965 silver quarter because you specifically mentioned it was a CLAD quarter.

My guess then would be a 1982D PCGS MS68.

How about a 1979 printed on an SBA planchet.

  • A high grade 1976-D. DDO#1-0-V-CCW FS#25c-028 ?
  • Those are all great guesses, however...

Mr. Wayne Herndon is exactly correct...it was indeed a 1965 sms Washington in PCGS MS67DCAM...quite a spectacular coin I may add.

Cam40 was so close, just a grade too high.

I must add that oldcameoproofsguy, was actually the first to get it, on the other thread, and was gratious enough to opt out of the coin, in lew [sp] of a whole new thread. Although if he still wants it he can have one, as well as Wayne and Cam40...just pm me to set things up.

thanks for participating...I also have some cool other stories as well, I can start some threads for guessing if you guess think it would be of interest...they are along similar topic categories, such as what I believe to be the highest price paid for a regular issued Proof Franklin dollar, no special error or anything like that...and for that matter probably the highest $$$ paid for a modern, after 1930 coin.

  • Cool thread. How many are there in 66DCAM?
  • wayneherndonwayneherndon Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭
Adrian, the 67 DCAM is a pop 0/1/0 (none higher, none lower, the only one).

Morris, I was in for the challenge of pop report research and price guide extrapolation rather than the coin as I already have several examples of that date. So, I would also like to opt out of the coin and have you put it to good use on another contest, or to YN benefit or something along those lines.

    Thanks for the diversion.
