Rotated dies...

As far as mint errors are concerned, it seems to me that rotated dies are probably the least dramatic. What do you think are the most exciting types of mint errors? For which mint errors would you pay the highest premium?

When I was a kid (30+ years ago) I purchased a coin book with a beautiful Red Indian Cent on the cover that was struck three of four times. I will never forget the cover of that book! I'd like to think I would pay big money if I ever had the chance.

Rotated dies are among my favorite errors, but this is partly because they
are really more like varieties. The dies have a tendency to settle at 180 degrees
and then strike many coins. The obverse and reverse are not affected indepen-
dently so the designs can still be fully appreciated. There are many of dozens
of US coins known with rotations and there are several in the states issues alone.

Rotated dies are rather boring to me. I like things like broadstrucks and off-centers on non-modern coins. Some off metal error are nice, but nothing compares to a coin being twick the size it normally is.
  • I like all errors, but the one I'd love to get my hands on the most I guess would be an off center Morgan or Peace dollar.Coins struck on the wrong planchet are pretty spectacular as well.
