I got my Blue Nickel back. I think they washed it for me.

Hi, I received my blue nickel from pcgs. It sure doesn,t look blue any more , maybe a little bit. Look at the before and after, and let me know what you think. The second scan actually makes the coin look more blue than it is now. And I know what you are thinking, (why the heck would he send that thing in to get graded?) I just got carried away, I was eager to get a coin graded and didn't look past the blue color. Now that i look at the second scan I can,t believe it got a 66. obv

  • There is a noticeable differnence in the scans. In scanning coins I have noticed a difference in the scans based on the height of the coin off the scanner bed. The slabbed one would be slightly higher. Could you attribute the difference to this? Are you basing your observation on the different scans or was the difference noticeable when you first got the coin back.

I sent 7 '61 Blue Jeffs in about a month ago. When I got them back I immediately noticed some of the blue toning had rubbed off on the high points. I didn't put them in poly bags and then in flips. Just straight into the flips. They all came back PR67. I think the ones with the rub would have graded PR68 if not for the distraction of the missing toning. It give the appearance of slight wear.

  • The scans i have there are a bad example. I base this on the fact when I got it back it didn't look blue anymore just faintly. My wife and friend said it isn't blue anymore. I thought it was a different coin but when I look at the scans I see the same marks but some were more hidden under the deep blue. Since I got it back I have receved two more blue ones in proof sets and I can really see the difference.
  • are the scrathces on thwe slab? I hate that for you.

Is it possible the blue rubbed off in the mail (inside the flip)?

  • Thats very odd. Was there a mix up at PCGS and someone just got a cool blue nickel?

  • Yes those scratches were on the slab. But some of the marks on the coin look the same only much more noticeable now. I don't know if it could have gotten that beat up in the flip I had it secured pretty good so it would'nt move around.
