any hardcore college football fans here

as a diehard cowboy fan i've seen my favorite team drop to 3-7 and i couldn't help but think about next years draft and what impact players might be available.. the way they are playing on offense they might not win another game all year.. I know very little about college ball so if someone can give me a list of about 5-7 top notch college guys that will be available in next years draft that would be cool

thanks, dave

  • The cowboys need a quarterback and I would draft carson palmer. I am biased but I think he will be a good pro quarterback and pac 10 qb's usually do well in the pros because they run sophisticated offenses. He has a great arm and can make all the throws. He already knows how to deal with adversity and adapt because he has been through 3 offensive coordinators. He is finally in a second year with the same coordiantor and he is having an awesome year.

  • Senaca Wallace (I think he's a senior) and Ken Dorsey are also very good QB's

  • rooks, i've been wondering how the Cowboys would solve their qb dilemma, thru free agency or thru the draft . i don't know what F.A 's are available next year but i think they can be a playoff team with a good qb. the draft is good but even a good rc qb needs time to develop and i dont know if Mr. Jones wants to wait any longer
  • i dont agree with it but Byron Leftwich from Marshall will probably be the first QB drafted

i am biased as well... but there is a pretty good RB up here in State College, PA named Larry Johnson... he looks like he should be a pretty good pro back.

  • Dallas needs alot of help in the secondary also, not as much safety's ( woodson and r.williams are very good ) but cb's
  • I think they should draft a qb this year. I wouldnt go through free agency because for the most part, the qb's who are capable of taking a team to the playoffs are signed by the teams they are on for long term contracts. There are several great qb's coming out. It all matters on what they want. If they want a proven winner then get dorsey although I think their program has more to do with their success than him. If they want a prototypical 6-6 240 lb guy who can make all the throws then get leftwhich or palmer. If they want a vick type then get wallace although he is a lot like quincy carter.

  • as long as that 6'6 240 lb guy dosen't end up to be Ryan leaf image
  • thanks for the input guys. now i can say i have a little hope for next year image
  • if they need secondary help, Troy Polumalu(sp) is a stud, but once again I am biased and the cowboys already have roy williamsimage

Im gonna have to disagree with you there. Im not going to say troy is better than those guys because I havent seen them but Troy has played great on a severely sprained ankle this year and is the main reason usc has one of the top 10 defenses in the country in a offensive oriented conference like the pac 10.

  • hey rooks, your from Cali so i thought you might know this. how has quentin jammer played so far this year? haven't seen to many charger games and haven't heard his name much this year..just curious because dallas wanted him with the 6th pick last year but s.d took him at 5. just wondering how he's panned out for them so far
  • He has done pretty well so far from what I have seen. He was on tv today and he seems to stick to his man pretty well although he did get beat a few times, but that is expected from a rookie. Im sure he'll be a great corner

  • I sympathize with you being both a Laker and a Cowboy fan. I know we need help with both QB and DB however it is risky to take an DB in the first round. I would look for Dorsey or Leftwich to be available as good selections. Also with Emmitt breaking the record he may not be playing too many more years and Hambrick is not enough to handle the complete load to so I wouldn't be surprised if they went after McGahee the RB from Miami or Greg Jones from Florida St.

    Thanks
    Lon
  • Carson Palmer and Leftwich are probably the best pro prospect QBs, but I've been hearing that Drew Henson might enter the draft, so he would also be a good pick. I think Charles Rogers from Michigan State will be the best rookie next year if he leaves early (I hope he does).
    image
  • why would drew henson have to enter the draft? isnt he the same status as what Chad Hutchinson was (with playing baseball after giving up on college football)? I am pretty sure he is just considered a FA like Hutchinson was and wouldnt have to be drafted.

  • My man Larry Johnson is gonna see some time in the pros, but not with the Cowgirls, I hope.
  • baird34-I think you are right, but I don't know how all of that works. I've seen Henson in some mock drafts lately, so that was the only reason that I thought he might be in the draft.
