Is this E-Mail from E-Bay real?

Just received this from E-Bay and am curious because they always say that they will ask for no personal information from you and this is requesting everything as well as the kitchen sink. Real or scam?? The form asks for PIN number on your credit card, Drivers license number, Social Security number, date of birth, everything! Anyone else received one of these???

Just try to bid on eBay and see if you have really been restricted.
The link you posted does go to eBay but you posted a bad link, you have to remove the space after sa in com/sa w- for it to work.
If you posted the complete & original url maybe we could tell something.
But don't send the pin # from your cc! image

I get one of those almost every month. Just theives trying to get your info. Greg made a suggestion some time ago that I have employed with a chuckle every time I use it. I submit the senders email address to every spammer that sends me email. Good luck.

I'm not positive, but I think I heard about this and that it might be a scam. I would contact Ebay by other means to check it out. Be vey careful!
  • Here is the Link. Look at the detailed info they want!!!image

I'm not a computer geek but it looks like it's a real eBay link but is redirected to 68.58.128.61 where the scammers steal your info with an Apache Web server on Comcast Cable.

  • Beware of the Paypal one I just recieved. Looks very real. Asks for your bank account and password to update their records on a form just like paypal. Goes to www.payspal.biz. I called and reported it to paypal and like you've already said, they say they would never ask for passwords through an e-mail. Pass this along. It was very convincing.

Dimetime yours is clearly fake because the PayPal url is https://www.paypal.com/ not payspal.biz Somebody is making it their biz and pays their pal by ripping off your account.

  • It first cam up as www.paypal.com then switches to the other once opened. I didn't fall for it, but some might. If you get these, change your password immediatly.

  • When you go to the URL they provide you will see it is not an ebay site so why would ebay want you to provide your info to a NONE ebay site?? I get these all the time for AOL and not once did the links go to an AOL site so anytime you get one of these if the URL does not match that of the main site you know it is a scam.
  • They didn't even bother masking their ip address on the domain forwarding.

open a command prompt and type in "ping ebay.com" (I added the quotes for clarity, don't type those). The ipaddress returned in not the same as that in the link. I would be very suspicious of that link.

Dog hate to tell you but anybody thats says things like "redirected to68.58.128.61" or " Apache web server on Comcast Cable" is dangerously close to Geekdom.
  • Damn LanLord this is the closest I've been to her belly button.

No company will ask you for a PIN number on your credit card. Not even your bank will ask you for your pin number. I would contact ebay and your local authorities on that one, even though there is really not much they can do. The dead givaway that that page is not really ebay, is the IP address that is atthe beginning of the address. The CCV number is the three digit security code on the back of the credit card that will give them instant access to use your credit card.

I guess I don't have enough money for THEM, I have never received one of those e-mails.image (yet) image

    Joe.
  • You can also send info to the Federal Trade Commission at uce@ftc.gov. I sent a copy of the URL to them. Hope it gets through.
  • This is a real good ebay mock up. The tip off is that the link is "http" and not secured as a "https".

People, never never never give out your pin to anyone ever. If they really word for a bonafide organization they dont need it.

Also no vender should get your social, especially ebay.

Too bad many will be scammed.

I just filled out their form with phony info and it went through!!

  • Any unsolicited email message that asks for data such as social security number, drivers license, PIN number, mother's maiden name, etc is requesting the information for one reason -- to rip you off.

No legitimate company will reqest that information out of the blue. If in doubt request a phone number where they can be reached and verify that the number is for the organization stated in the email and contact the "legitimate" organization and ask why they need the information.

Organizations request the data they need at application time. It is extremely rare that they ever need additional data and very rare that they need to confirm information already given to them.
  • Thanks, all!! their bogus Link is now closed. Guess they got scared and high tailed it!

It's always a good rule of thumb to know someone behind the business your dealing with.
Does anyone know anybody behind the ebay scene? That you can send direct questions to.

  • That's all Greek (Geekimage) to me. Do you think E-Bay also garnered this info and may lead to something?
  • I don't know but if they are off the air then I would imagine ebay got the same info and jacked em.image
